Question about 2000 Lincoln Continental

1 Answer

Having Engine Ping on the 4.6 litre. She's not over heating according to the "Engine Temp Gadge in Dash" The car has about 158000 KMS. The pinging has just started. Honestly I beat the 24 valve V8 I'm wondering if the timing is a problem or is she running too lean. It only pings in during medium acceleration. When I gun her the pinging stops. Also I noticed it pings less with a full/full tank of gas. At 1st it pinged only during hot weather now in any weather. I'm wondering if the injectors are a problem or the spark plugs or a fuel filter or dirty fuel pick up. Before I spend thousands of dollars at the garage having them go over every idea I have I wanted to ask 1st. Also note I fuel up at different gas stations and companies all the time. I have let the tank run dry on occasion (down to within a KM of fuel) yeah I know its really bad, I work on the road with her and fueling up is not always an option.

I have a 425 CI 7 litre Cadillac V8 in a 1979 Diamanté. Once the engine is up to temperature a rattle like noise comes into the engine under acceleration. The noise goes when the throttle is

You need to find where the noise is coming from. On the top could be lifters, valves or low octane gas causing a ping. On the bottom could only one thing. Rod knock. The bearings for the pistons and crankshaft are worn.

Why my 99 nissan quest pinging a lot during hot weather

Switch to premium to see if that is a temp fix. Then run a full strength fuel injector cleaner in the gas tank.

Renault Megane 2000 Model Classic 16 Valve Rxe, engine ping after cambelt has been replaced. No power on the engine

pinging in the engine is detonation caused fro wrong air fuel mixture for the accelerator opening and engine load. It is controlled by knock sensors that adjust the mixture in the CPU .IT has nothing to do with valve timing but may be affected by ignition timing . I would be having a compression test done to check for bent valves ( bent during the belt replacement). Have the cam timing re checked as it may be still out a bit.

1997 gmc truck pings

Timing should be set by the PCM. So you cant adjust the timing. However if you have a faulty knock sensor the PCM cant tell the proper time to fire. The knock sensor picks up on ignition ping and adjust the time to send spark to the plugs.. Other causes of ping can be the engine temp, faulty EGR or the engine can be to lean.

When engin gets hot it starts to **** is the plugs

if it is overheating , ti will ping. do not drive like this. Low on coolant? why getting hot? or do you just mean at operating temp? If yes, your EGR valve is plugged or not opening. EGR reduces ping on warm engine by reburning exhasut gases.
