Question about 1987 Ford Ranger

1 Answer

I have a 1987 Ford Ranger 2wd 2.9 liter. I have had this truck for a little over a year. the truck only has 81,000 miles on it but it has this sputter out and dieing problem. When I first started driving it, it would sputter, die at stop signs and lights, but could usually start it right back up. Now it dies while i'm driving, if it's idling then it bounces from 0 to 3000 rpms and shuts off, and won't start back up for about fifteen minutes...but sometimes it doesn't give me any problems at all. My Father and I have changed everything on this truck except for an O2 sensor. We can't seem to find the trigger to the sputter, idling mishaps, dieing, and then being fine.

I think that you need to be more specific when you say that you have changed everything... Because i'm sure that there is MUCH more that has to do with this problem then you may think.... Has the fuel pump fuel pump float pressure regulator and filter been changed out. Also has the crank sensor been changed out. What you the cam sensor?
