The engine damage can be extensive.
Sometimes it is cheaper -when there is a lot of damage- to buy a refurbished engine or a -good- used one instead!

Complicated repair, complete front of motor has to be removed. Expensive. Suggest strongly to take it to a shop.

Has the tining belt been checked, it may have a broken timing belt or the belt jumped on the gears.

Hello emissionwiz it looks that you know about this vehicle. I just purchased a Daewoo Lanos 2001. They advised me that the timing belt broke and that the tension pulley broke. I went to a u pull yard and...

if the timming belt broke when the engine was running most of the time the valves get bent and leak (head off repair) you could check this once you have replaced the belt before you start remove rocker cover and check for gaps between cam lobe and valve bucket when lobe is not pushing bucket down if there is a gap valve is bent.
these vehicles came out with a single cam or twin cam engine also so which one have you got?
valves bent on both engines when belt broke while running

on single cam engines you lock the tensioner with pin and loosen water pump and turn to obtain correct belt tension then release lock pin in tensioner and check that marks on tensioner align up if not turn water pump to get correct. some times this then causes the seal on the water pump to fail if its been there for some time because they corrode in block and its only a "O" ring so you might need a waterpump and "O" ring and coolant use grease on waterpump and "O" ring to make sealing and turning if needed eazier.

ifyou need any more info let me know even if twin cam can send pics also

1994 Dodge stratus 2.4 dohc Car died and will not start You turn timing belt by had a little and when you try to start it you get 1 revolution and it stops again Any help? Thanks

Did you turn the timing belt or the drive belt, because it sounds as if the timing belt broke. have this checked. if the belt broke the piston may have slapped the valves, this would have bent them. expensive repair

Honda died while on freeway

so you checked under the timing belt cover and found that your timing belt broke. you have an interference engine which means when the timing belt broke the pistons most likely hit against the valves which now means you most likely wil need valve/head replaced and t-belt replaced.

1990 Honda accord..Car wont start check for spark no spark replace the distributor still no spark no check for fuel no fuel also what can the problem be

See if the rotor is turning with the cap off if rotor turns then check the coil for voltake, if the rotor does not turn you have a broke or slipped timing belt/chain.
