Question about 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix

1 Answer

My 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix 3.8 non-supercharge (104,500) mi.. The car will idle but when you press the gas it won't go/move - it kind of jerks, in place. Also when you press the gas the sound gets deeper like a bad exhaust and the engine seems to start heating up quick. What could be the problem?

What kind of motor does a Pontiac Grand Prix have?

Depends on what sub-model you have. If you have an SE its a 3100 3.1L Engine. If its a GT its a 3800 3.8L Engine. If its a GTP its a 3800 3.8L but with a supercharger.

2006 pontiac grand prix 3.8 supercharged, check

you probably have a problem in the evap emissions system and a superficial engine diagnostic @ a shop will likely confirm this. a loose gas cap is the most common cause for this, so it tells you to check it first in an attempt to save you a trip to the shop. if the cap is new and tightened past 3 clicks, then the problem lies somewhere else in that system. there are many parts in that system, so it probably would be best left to a shop to figure out exactly what the cause is.

Fuel pressure

With the 3.1 engine: Ignition on 52-59 psi, at idle 42-56 psi. With the 3.8 engine: Ignition on 48-54, at idle 38-51. Let me know if your's is supercharged the specs maybe different.
