1985 for ltd fuel pump keeps running

For the water pump, that means the water pump needs replaced-the seal is shot when it drips out the "weep hole". The hole is there to let you know the inner seal is gone.

I have a 83 ford ltd . I filled it with gas .The next day I drove it about 50 miles ! It started shugging til it finally stopped ! I then put a hanger down in the gas tank to check for gas ! It had gas in...

The 83 still used a carb and mechanical fuel pump I believe.
And the fuel pump is probably bad.
Check the oil and make sure it is not over filled with gasoline.
Take the fuel line off the carb, and see if the pump squirts when engine cranked.
Open the gas cap as well, so make sure a stuck purge valve is not holding the gas back.

Take off the fuse cover and note the location of the in-tank fuel pump & the main pump. If memory serves they are fuses 5 & 7. connect the fuses with a jumper to bypass the pump relay. The fuel pump will come on with the key off! Listen for the sound. No Sound No Pump.
If the pump works, try starting the engine with the jumper attached. If it starts you have a bad relay behind the glove box.

Does the fuel pump run when the ignition is turned on? If not, start tracing the wiring to the pump. There is a connector near the frame by the back right wheel that can cause problems.
If the fuel pump runs, does the starter engage?

on a 83 its a external fuel pump, mounted in front of the fuel filter right in front of the drivers side rear tire, sounds like a bad pump or a bad relay or also could be the oil pressure switch that tells the fuel pump to kick in

Intermittent fuel pump engagement when turning key - 2001 Taurus

try cleaning the connector that goes to the fuel pump, sometimes they corrode on inside. If that does not fix, test the wires feeding fuel pump with a multi meter until the condition shows itself again, if voltage drops to zero or very low then wiring problem, if voltage is unchanged with problem and fuel pump is not working and connectors are all clean, try replacement of fuel pump.

83 saab 900,car starts right up but dies like you turn off the switch? new fuel pump, filter

There's two fuel pumps, primary in the gas tank and a secondary pump under the car. Try using a jumper wire where the fuel pump relay plugs into to see if the relay is bad. Clean and adjust the airflow plate. Check for rust at the fuel distributor. And check for leaks in the plastic fuel lines from the fuel distributor to the injectors (wrap some paper towels around them and turn the key on to prime the system). Clean the terminals on the fuse panel and wiring harness junction blocks. Look here for more help
