I'm assuming that your car keep stalls... check for vacuum leaks and the IAC (idle air control) valve your problem is sounds like it is malfunctioning. Also, scan the power control module for fault codes (the module controls all the transmission functions). In addition, check speedometer sensor for proper operation and check for a partially plugged catalytic converter.

If you find code P015 there, this indicates a failed vehicle speed sensor. This would account for your speedometer and your transmission not working properly. Replacing it should fix your problem. Recheck and clear codes.

Hope helps.

Vibration in transmission

I do not know if this vehicle has a torque converter lockup or not, but sounds like it. Does the transmission stop shaking when you go over 65? Some vehicles have a torque converter lockup, which means when the vehicle is traveling at a certain speed in high gear the torque converter "locks" and there is no slippage to the transmission resulting in better fuel economy. if the torque converter doesn't "unlock" when you slow down to say 45 then the engine will "lug" causing vibration. If this is the case you are not hurting anything by driving, just shift to 3 when it shakes then upshift under lighter load, or take it to a shop that replaces transmission sensors.

2002 toyota Highlander. will not go into park. will drive fine in all gears, but from rev to park is basically impossible. Have to push rather strongly to get it there in order to turn off and get key out....

Hello. Welcome to FixYa.

It sounds like the bushing on the transmission, where the shift cable attaches, is either broken or seized.

What to do:

Go out, open the hood, and have someone move the shift lever. Observe the front of the transmission, on the driver side, where the cable meets the lever on the front of the transmission.

The bushing may be seized or broken.

Intermittent rough idle on 2002 toyota highlander

before you do this I would get some wooden qtips - the long ones auto detailers use. take off the air filtrer assembly and spray carb cleaner into the air\fuel intake and use the qtip to wipe out the inside of the intake. I had the same problem with my highlander a year ago and this fixed the problem.
