Question about 2002 Oldsmobile Alero

CANNOT GET BOLT TO COME LOOSE IT IS NOT RUSTED THEIR IS TOO MUCH PRESSURE ON THE BOLT FROM THE WHEEL ASSEMBLY CAN'T REMOVE STRUT FROM WHEEL. IT IS THE LOWER BOLT ON THE STRUT. AM I JACKING CAR UP TOO HIGH OR WHAT? 2002 OLDSMOBILE ALERO V6 3.4 LITER ENGINE.

There shoulden't be any weight related stress on the bolt, try some wd-40 or nut cracker solvent

How to remove rear struts


Remove or disconnect the following:
NOTE
Hold the hex on the attaching link stud while breaking the nut loose. The attaching link does not have to be removed from the strut.
Rear wheel
Caliper assembly and rotor from the hub, if equipped with rear disc brakes
Brake flex hose from the support bracket and wheel cylinder, if equipped with rear drum brakes. Plug the brake flex hose to prevent system contamination. Do not allow the rear caliper to hang by the brake hose. Support the caliper off of the frame with a strong piece of wire.
Speed sensor cable routing bracket and tube, if equipped with Anti-lock Brake System (ABS)
Lateral links to the rear spindle assembly bolts
Rear strut assembly-to-stabilizer bar attaching link at the stabilizer bar
Remove the rear spindle-to-strut assembly pinch bolt. Install a center punch in the hole on the spindle and tap the punch into the hole until jammed. This will spread the spindle casting allowing it to be removed from the strut.
Using a hammer, tap on the top surface of the spindle, driving the spindle down and off the end of the strut assembly. Let the spindle and assembled components hang from the trailing arm while the strut is being serviced.
From inside the trunk of the vehicle, remove the 3 upper strut mounting bolts and remove the strut from the vehicle.
Disassemble the strut by performing the following procedure:
NOTE
Service of the coil spring requires the use of a coil spring compressor tool. It is required that 5 coils be captured within the jaws of the compressor tool.

How do I replace rear strut and spring


Replace it as a unit. Strut, spring, strut mount all in one. It's called a quick strut. Raise car by the body not the wheel. Remove brake line (1 bolt) from strut lower. Remove 2 large bolts holding lower strut end. In the trunk 3 smaller bolts hold the strut mount (upper end) in place. DO NOT remove the single large nut at the top of the strut assembly. Wiggle the strut assembly out. Slide the new strut assembly in bolt it back in. Put wheel back on. Done.

How to remove and replace front air suspension struts in 2006 Audi A8


Follow these steps:
  1. Open the car hood. If you have a factory stereo system installed you need to now the security code t reactivate the sound. Remove the negative cable from the battery to prevent the air bags from popping.
  2. Use a pair of wheel chocks behind the rear wheels. Use a car jack to raise the side of the car you will work on. Take off the wheel by loosening the lug nuts.
  3. On the wheels wells in the engine chamber use a socket and ratchet and remove the grommets and upper strut nuts. Also disconnect the brake hose bracket and ABS sensor wire from under the car.
  4. Again take the socket and ratchet to loosen the pinch bolt and nut located on the upper control arm, which you will remove from the wheel knuckle. When the pinch bolt goes through you must not pry open the slotted area. Use a socket and ratchet and remove the strut assembly.
  5. Place a spring compressor on the coil spring and tighten it enough to relieve the pressure from the spring cap. Using a socket and ratchet remove the center nut from the strut rod. Remove the spring cap, coil spring and spring seats from the strut. Place the coil spring on the new strut along with the new spring seats and spring cap.
  6. Place the center nut on the strut rod and tighten it. Take off the spring compressor form the coil spring. Install the strut on the Audi and mount the upper control arm with the wheel knuckle.
  7. Connect the ABS sensor wire to the strut. Attach the brake hose bracket to the strut and tighten the nut. Install the three upper strut nuts in the engine compartment and tighten them. Cover the nuts with grommets. Place the wheel on the Audi and tighten the lug nuts with the lug wrench.

HOW TO INSTAL QUICK STRUTS ON A CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO 2003


Hello dedime,
Removal

1. Remove the nuts and bolt attaching the top of the strut assembly to the body.

2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.

3. Place jack stands under the front cross member.

4. Lower the vehicle slightly so that the weight of vehicle rests on the jack stands and not on the control arms.

Notice: Care must be exercised to prevent the drive axle joints from being over-extended. When either end of the shaft is disconnected, over-extension of the joint could result in separation of the internal components and possible joint failure. Drive axle joint boot protectors should be used any time service is performed on or near the drive axles. Failure to observe this can result in interior joint or boot damage and possible joint failure.

5. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.

6. Remove the brake line bracket.

7. Scribe the strut flange.

Important: The steering knuckle must be supported in order to prevent axle joint over-extension.

8. Remove the bolts and the nuts attaching the strut to the steering knuckle.

Notice: Care should be taken to avoid scratching or cracking the spring coating when handling the front suspension coil spring. Damage can cause premature failure.

9. Remove the strut from the Vehicle.

Installation Procedure

1. Install the strut into position and install the nuts and one bolt connecting the strut to the body. Hand tighten the nuts and the bolt.

2. Align the steering knuckle with the strut flange scribe mark and install the bolts and nuts. Tighten the nuts to 180 Nm (133 ft. lbs.).

3. Tighten the nuts and bolt attaching the top of the strut to the body. Tighten the nuts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).

Tighten the bolt to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).

4. Install the brake line bracket.

5. Install the tire and wheel assembly.

6. Inspect the front wheel alignment.

How hard is it to replace a rear strut


it is fairly easy
1. jack up remove wheel, block car on frame!!! not on the strut
2. remove two big bolts on bottom of strut then have to drive them out of hub housing (splined about 1 inch on head side of bolt.
3. remove the sway bar connector rod (allen key and wrench. or if allen is stripped u can use wrench just in front of boot, so one inside and undo the one nut you can see facing you)
4. open trunk pull carpet back on top of wheel well so you can see 3 nuts in a triangle with one in the center DO NOT REMOVE CENTER NUT this is what holds spring to strut assembly..put a jack under strut to hold it in place .remove the 3 nuts.
5. pry the bottom of strut out of hub
6. drop out strut and spring assembly.
7. use 2 spring depressors to squeeze the spring so u may remove large center nut, use wrench and allen key.
8. replace as a whole unit or just the strut. the whole unit is more expensive and if so delete step 7
9. reverse the steps to install.
10. make sure all bolts are tight and check with torque wrench for proper tightness.
11. MAKE SURE LOL you dont want to go for a drive with any of these parts loose. If u r not experienced take it to a shop.

Front shocks/struts not attached at top mount, rusted away needs to be replaced, how to replace upper strut mounts 2001 sebring convertible


you will need to get spring compressors to do the job and if they rusted away chances are the strut shaft nut is rusted too and will need heat from a torch or a powerful air tool to remove it . but if you want to try it first you jack the car and remove the wheel.then unbolt the two large bolts that hold it to the knukle at the bottom,brake hose might be attached to it also remove it .then unbolt the four bolts at the top that hold it and remove the strut. now you will need a strut compressor to squeeze the spring so that the mount is free of pressure from the spring,replace it with the new one careful to install the spring into the seat just like it was.reverse install

I NEED TO REPLACE THE FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS ON MY 2004 CAVILER


Bearing is a hub assembly...not terribly difficult to remove but instructions are a bit too long to write here. You can find instructions in any haynes or chilton manual (about $20) and, manual will help you on many other jobs.Pretty much you remove the brake assembly and rotor, remove the axle center bolt and the three bolts that hold the hub on the steering knuckle. Hardest part is breaking the center bolt loose and getting the hub out of the knuckle. (they get rusted in)

raise rear of vechicle then support by jack stands.let rear suspension hang to take pressure off strut coil springs.remove rear package tray trim panel. remove rear wheel.remove brake load sensor .remove brake hose.remove stabilizer bar bracket and link.remove tension strut .remove spindle pinch bolt and strut assembly.if the strut coil spring broke you wont need a coil springcompressor.BESURE INSTALL NEW MOUNTING BOLTS AND PINCH BOLT.install the strut assembly.use a new pinch bolt .torque it to 50-67 ft lbs.torque the 3 upper mounting nuts to 19-25 ft lbs. tension strut torque nut to 35-46 ft lbs. stabilizer bar link torque to 60- 81 inch pounds.stabilizer bar bracket torque to 25-33 ft lbs.NOW INSTALL .brake hose / brake load sensor/ rear wheel /rear package tray trim panel.

I need step by step instructions to replace front struts.


1.Turn ignition to OFF position to place steering column in unlocked position.
2.Remove hub nut
3.Loosen, but do not remove, three top mount-to-shock tower
4.Raise vehicle on a hoist.
5.Remove tire and wheel assembly
6.Move brake caliper and wire out of the way
7.Remove brake rotor
8.Remove cotter pin from tie rod end stud and remove slotted nut.
Discard cotter pin and nut
9.remove tie rod from knuckle
10.Remove stabilizer bar link nut, and remove link from strut
11.Remove and discard lower arm-to-steering knuckle pinch bolt and nut. (A drift punch may be used to remove bolt.) Using a screwdriver, slightly spread knuckle-to-lower arm pinch joint and remove lower arm from steering knuckle.
12.Press halfshaft from hub
13.Remove shock absorber strut-to-steering knuckle pinch bolt. Using a large screwdriver, slightly spread knuckle-to-strut pinch joint, if required, for removal
14.Remove steering knuckle and hub assembly from shock absorber strut
15.Remove three top mount-to-shock tower nuts and remove strut and spring assembly from vehicle
16.Compress spring with Spring Compressor
17.Place 10mm box-end wrench on top of shock strut shaft and hold while removing top shaft retaining nut with a 21mm 6-point crow foot wrench and ratchet
18.Loosen Spring Compressor , then remove top mount bracket assembly, bearing plate assembly and spring.
INSTALLATION
1.Place a 10mm box-end wrench on top of shock strut shaft and hold while tightening top shaft retaining nut with a 21mm 6-point crow foot wrench and ratchet to 53-72 Nm (40-53 lb-ft).
2.Install strut and spring assembly and three top mount-to-shock tower nuts
3.Install steering knuckle and hub assembly to shock absorber strut.
4.Install a new shock absorber strut-to-steering knuckle pinch bolt. Tighten to 98-132 Nm (73-97 lb-ft).
5.Install halfshaft into hub
6.Install lower arm to steering knuckle ensuring that ball stud groove is properly positioned and boot seal is not damaged. Install a new pinch bolt and nut. Tighten to 53-72 Nm (40-53 lb-ft).
7.Install stabilizer bar link to strut and install a new stabilizer bar link nut. Tighten to 77-103 Nm (57-75 lb-ft).
8.Install tie rod end onto knuckle.
9.Install a new tie rod end slotted nut. Tighten to 31-47Nm (23-34 lb-ft).
10.Install a new slotted nut retaining cotter pin.
11.Install brake rotor
12.Install brake caliper
13.Install tire and wheel assembly
14.Tighten three top mount-to-shock tower nuts to 30-40Nm (23-29 lb-ft).
15.Lower vehicle and tighten hub nut to 230-275 Nm (170-202 lb-ft)
16.Depress brake pedal several times prior to moving vehicle.

Chaning right wheel bearing on 1999 Chevy Malibu


It is much easier, and cheaper to find a steering knuckle or "hub assembly" in a salvage yard.
To begin, jack up the car and remove the wheel. Be certain the car is stable and will not roll off jack(s)!
Remove the spindle nut. Remove the brake caliper (hang on a wire). Remove the bolt for lower ball join. Remove the bolt that goes thru strut. Now, pull assembly off while prying to ease pressure from the lower control arm.
Depending on how many miles you have on the car, you might want to head-off some future trouble by replacing the half-axle while you have the front end disassembled.
