Hi.

It is a problem with the VW central lock "total closure" system. Your A6 has a system to automatically roll up all windows and central lock if you hold the button on the remote for more than five seconds when closing.

This system may get jammed and roll down the windows instead. The problem is an acknowledged factory defect.

The fault may be caused by a jammed Total Closure System or by a contact in the BCM (body control module) connector located under one of the front seats (driver in lhd).
Check if the carpets are wet. In that case the short in module contacts is possible.

On the Internet there are many forums discussing the problem, with users saying that they fixed the problem by holding the remote button, or by disconnecting the battery with windows closed

This solutions may work, but the only professional way to fix the problem is done at a VW dealer, by connecting a VagCom tool to the control module to reset it, and if the problem persists by disabling the Total Closure function.
Total closure can be disabled (or module reset) only using a Vag Com, that is an expensive tool available at VW authorized garage.
The job should not be too expensive, as no part is required.

Also ask the dealer if there is any recall possibly covering the repair. VW knows about the issue, and several service bulletins were issued.

Here a forum on the problem.

Best regards.

Ginko.

Thanks for the response. I tried diconnecting the battery for 20 minuets. The alarm fob no longer locks or unlocks the car. Tried another fob, same results. Carpet does not appear to be wet.

The doors lock and the windows go down even if the drivers door is open after the key is removed. If I put the key back in I can raise the windows and they stay up.

Does this help pin point the problem?

Hi Warren, the problem is already pin pointed.

The problem is the total closure function controlled by the body control module (BSI- body system interface in VW language).

The module must be accessed with a Vag com, that is a scanner whose cost is about $800. This is available at VW garage.

If problem was a contact or door switch, the windows won't go all down at same time. There is no central switch and function is controlled by the mentioned module.

Moreover this is a well known issue.

You have to report my comments to the VW dealer. The mechanic may not be aware of the issue, giving you a quote of $1000 to replace the body control module instead of resetting it with the com tool.

My 2008 Mitsubishi lancer cj my08 drivers side back door wont open from inside or outside. Small 1/4 window has been smashed and im guessing there might glass stuck in the locking mechanism but I dont know...

Wind the window down completely. You should be able to get a hooked wire down behind the glass to snag the lock mechanism. You could also call your auto club for assistance.

Window motors sounds

It sounds like the power locks are making the noise to me. First the power going to the window gets shut off when you shut off the key. Second the window will not make noise unless the cable for the window regulator is broke, then the window will go down and stay down or up and wont go much of anywhere. Try to hold the power lock button and listen for the same noise. Most of the time the one of the switches go bad and keep trying to lock the car. Its usually the one that wont lock or unlock.

1995 ford futura doors wont lock

Inside the door is an electric motor that pulls the door lock down to the locked position, either the rod has come off to the door latch from the door lock motor or the motor has failed. Remove the door panel and check it for power when the button is pressed for the power locks, if it gets power then it is most likely the motor that is the problem.

Sometimes the brand new battery is dead, and sometimes it isnt. at about the same time this problem occured the passenger side rear door lost the power window and locks. sometimes the door ajar light comes...

System not 'going to sleep' causing parasitic draw higher than 25mA.

When you turn off your car the electrical system shuts down after 90 seconds to a low level draw of 25mA or less.

The door switch stays activated and rest of on-board systems stay awake too.

Need door lock sensor replaced and/or maybe window switch/es.

Have car scanned for faults with a VAG-COM scanner or simalar.

Check here for a local shop or reference or a VW specialist shop...http://www.iatn.net/shopfinder/

Windows keep going down and doors unlocking after doors get locked by key or by remote and constantly making noise as if locking procedure is in process

this is a std feature....no really, its what vw call safety rollback... to reset ...take key out of ignition, lock car, leave for 15secs,then unlock car with key.holding key over untill all windows are down fully then take key out wait 15 secs put key back into door and lock car, windows will shut hopefully all the way this time...if you put your hand in whilst closing window it will "rollback"with key in ignition... NOT DOOR.

Power window open partially with inside or outside

inside the mechanical lock (The part that actualy holds the door shut when you close it) there is a switch that informs the control unit that the lock is either locked or unlocked.
These switches fail sometimes, when this happens the control unit is not aware that you have opened the door, and therefor will not wind the window down slightly.
The switch is integral with the lock unit, and they are not easy things to replace either.
