Question about 2000 Volkswagen Golf
2001 F150 5.4 V8
Just rebuilt my 4r70w after it blew up inside (replaced forward drum, reverse drum, servos, filter and a few other hard parts) (I kept the old valvebody and the old pump) I noticed as I installed the valve body that it could go into park and reverse but only half way into drive and wont go into 2 or 1 at all because that was as far as the valve would move over. I didn't know any better so I put the transmission back together thinking it would self fix.
Now that its back together when I put it in:
Reverse = it acts as if its in neutral
Neutral = is neutral
Drive = I have to rev the engine really high and it barely creeps forward at all (like 1 mph)
And the shifter wont even shift down into 2 or 1.
Even with low fluid it should still shift past neutral into drive, 2, 1 but it doesn't
Any ideas besides checking the shift linkage?
With the drain pan off the transmission and the shift mechanism exposed where it meets and pushes in the valve, what would stop the valve from moving in far enough for it to engage D, 2, 1

Be sure to check the vss (vehicle speed sensor) at the output shaft as it's a major input for both engine and transmission. This is the first one to suspect.

SOURCE: 2002 f150 transmission
if that is a super duty model it is likely the 100 be that as it may the 4R100 is an updated E40D. It is available with the 5.4 in the F-150 only with the California emissions package. Otherwise you get the 4R70W
you can usually "decode" the vin number. here is the link for that http://www.ford-trucks.com/vin-decoder/index.php
this appears to be an excellent site for ford truck owners as well.
