The following steps will stop making damn smokes...

  1. Step 1 Clean off your engine and engine compartment. Automotive supply stores sell products you can use to clean out the engine. Follow the directions, and let your engine dry off.
  2. Step 2 Jack the car up with the car jack. Make sure you are on a level surface, and follow the directions for the jack.
  3. Step 3 Look closely at your oil filterwhy does my car throw black smoke - mag-glass_10x10.gif and the rest of the engine. If you see any drips of oil, try to follow the trail. Typically this type of leak comes from a missing or loose gasket. These are easily replaced, and will eliminate the smoking. If you do not see any oil drips, continue on.
  4. Step 4 Dust your engine liberally with foot powder. Don't worry, this will not harm your engine. You are trying to create a path for the oil to travel, to make it easier for you to find.
  5. Step 5 Drive your car on a clean, dry street for a mile or two, and return to your level surface.
  6. Step 6 Jack your vehicle up again, and look for the trail. If you see a trail, follow it. Again, this could be due to a seal or tubing, both of which are fairly simple to replace. Consult an automotive manual for information on this. If you find what looks like an oil spray, or severe loss of oil, you have a much larger problem, such as a manifold or head gasket problem
  7. Step 7 If you have one of the larger problems regarding an oil leak, take your vehicle to a trustworthy mechanic. Problems of this nature can become chronic if they are repaired incorrectly

Throwing black smoke and back fire on 1986 nissan hardbody

black smoke is a sign of over fuelling ( leaking injector washers, excessive fuel pressure , choke on float not working needle and seat not shutting off,. This will also cause back firing as the fuel is accumulating in the inlet manifold and being ignited by an exhaust valve opening

either the crank position sensor or something else but you will need to do some tests and post the results so myself or another mechanic can give you the diagnosis ,like when it stops is it still sparking?? are the plugs wet when it stops ?? is their fuel pressure when it stops ,is it throwing out black smoke ??

Engine is throwing out oil, as I drive, when stop grayish black smoke apperas

Hi There.

The question is where the oil is being thrown out.

When you park, is there an oil spot being left from a leak?

Is the smoke coming from beneath the vehicle (oil dripping on a hot surface) or from the tailpipe as exhaust?

The source of the oil leak needs to be located so the problem can be addressed

Best regards,
Mike

02 highlander 4cyl I park it for 2 days when I go to start it smoke blows out the tail pipe after 30 sec or so no more smoke what is the problem ?

Depending on the color of the smoke.....

Blue smoke = Burnt oil (Valve steam oilseals)
To fix you need them replaced can be done without removing the head.

Black smoke = Too much fuel (Running rich)
Tune-up replace air filter.

If its a turbo it could be the seals in the turbo but i doubt it as it stops smoking.
Hope this helps , Please rate me as feedback does help.

1991 buick park ave black smoke coming out of exhuast! Can u help

You probably have a service engine light on too. It sounds like your CTS (coolant temp sensor) isn't working and causing the injectors to run rich.
