How can I loosen jammed/stuck speedometer gear in its housing?

Hello Dan,

The speedo drive has an o ring seal. The actual tolerances should not seize the unit in the case. You mentioned you "cut the cable". Is it ruined? Relieve any gear binding by placing the tranny in 1st gear and gently rock the car back and forth while pulling up and twisting on the cable. You may also want to gently tap the top of the drive gear with a brass drift first...carefully...light taps should help to unseat the parts.

How do i check the gearbox oil level in a 1999 ford festiva trio s 5 speed

Remove the speedometer cable and driven gear from the transaxle case. Wipe the gear clean and reinsert it. Pull it out again there is a small tab on the driven gear, there is a notch on the tab full in the first indentation and below the tab add fluid.

93 ford festiva front end growling and scrapeing noises. sometimes jerks to one side. brakes apear ok. speedometer made these same noises pryer to going out. could it posible be from speedo cable. or out...

Sounds like the CV joint is shot - this is a front-wheel drive car, right. The side that it jumps to has a bad CV bearing that needs to be replaced would be my bet.

89 ford festiva l wont go into 5th gear how do i fix it

88 - 89 festiva "L" models came with a 4 speed. Unless it has been swapped with a 5 speed from an 88 - 89 "LX" or a 90 - 93 festiva 4 gears is all you have. Everything you ever wanted to know about your festiva can be found a I've seen 8 festivas with 500,000 miles now. They are bullet proof and big time fun. Easy to work on too. And most owners are really down to earth because we don't care what people think of us. Festivas are also easy and cheap to make very fast. Get on the forum. We will welcome you!

Hello, I assume you mean the transmission gear oil. I have the original shop manual for the 1992 Festiva so I can answer any questions that it covers if you like. The gear oil is replaced through the speedometer cable insert, where it enters the top of the transmission. When you remove the speedometer cable, you will see two lines on the insert that screws into the hole and you fill the transmission up to the level of the top line when warm.

Need to replace speedo cable in my 91 Festiva

I would go to a salvage yard or an auto parts place and look at one because it sounds like the gear on one end of your speedo cable came off and then all you have to do is get the complete cable and it comes with instructions which end goes to wheel and which end to transmission but if you cannot find that end more then likely it is in the bottom of the transmission pan

Ford festiva 93 model wa

i gather that you are keeping the transmision selector handle in the Drive position.
qturn the car around and go up the hill again but this time set the selector on 2 and see if it works better.
then try it in drive position again but at a slow speed,,the trans should stay in a lower gear and pull easily.
This will tell you if the trans is shifting properly or not.

And no i doubt very much if it is the filter since you dont mention any problems on a level roadbed.
