Helloogmaciascian:My name is Roger and I can help with your answer. There are several ways water can enter the transmission. driving through flood water is the most obvious way to get water in the transmission. Water enters the vent tube or through the dip stick tube.Water may also enter through the radiator transmission cooler. When the cooler opens up when the coolant is hot. Coolant will be allowed in to the radiator. Also this can work the opposite way also as by letting oil in to the radiator. When this happens it looks like a strawberry milk shake in the radiator and the recovery tank. Should you need further help please just ask. Please rate the answer as this way I know it helped. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger

There a vent in top of tranny if car ever in flood water will get in thu vent other than a flood if u have a open top or soft roof rain water could run down thu floor board or if your using jeep off road going thu creek or river
if u do have water in any auto tranny it will destory it
reason is a auto tranny has a lot of clutch disks and the material disintegrates in water

89 Jeep Cherokee Pioneer w/AT4 auto tranny behind 4.0 engine. When cold, tranny works fine, but after 2 to 4 miles, won't engage in any gear manually or automatically, and won't engage in 4WD. After...

This sounds like all checks have been done, the oil is fine and the linkage is good, soory to say your trany is in need of a rebuild, sounds like in internal leak or weak pump, i would have a trany shop check it but i can tell you there going to say it news rebuilding. good luck.

Upgrade by78 CJ Jeep 304 V8, 3 sp tranny

old cherokee jeeps(amc years) with the 360 had an adapter plate to mount a gm turbo 350 trannie, these may b hard to find now, im not sure but i think those years have the same bellhousing as ford, except for very minor difference, if you get a trannie from that era there is only one hole you have to drill out, you need the trens from that era cause the boss is cast into the housing,,,, now ive only done the auto to manual shift, not the other way round, it may have been that the bellhousing from jeep fit the ford trannie np205 heavy truck 3/4 ton , back when you could swap bell housings

The ignition control module for the 1988 Jeep Cherokee is located on the ignition coil for the 4.0 L SSI, or in the distributor for the HEI system, which is easily identified by the large distributor cap. The 2.5 L Renix ignition module is located left of the battery and is integrated to the coil.
