Question about Ford Crown Victoria

2 Answers

2002 crown victoria police inceptor- 4.6 - when rolling 60 mph at night the positve cable to battery broke contact, car jerks and brakes hard and slide tires as all lights came on instrument panel before going out. then lights came back on so i put shift into netural and started car. the car started off for about 150 ft. and all lights went out. found positive post not making good contact. after secureing the post all is well except when car tries to shift into overdrive. it feels as though brakes are being applied instead of going on forward. next day after checking all fluids levels, found them to be fine. car has reverse, first and second gear shift out fine but when tries to go into top gear or overdrive it reams up and doesn't pull. can this be an electrical sensor on the tranmission componant that has shortened out. it never did this before. please don't tell me that the transmission is shot.

I'm not going to tell you that the transmission is shot but I CAN tell you the TCM (Transmission Control Module). It probably needs to be re-programmed.

Get it to a shop and have checked and possibly reprogramed. Hopefully it is not corrupted.

Your trans is not shot. Due to the voltage issue while the vehicle is running may have caused your shift control solenoid to short out. This solenoid is controlled by the powertrain control module and controls the fluid during certain pressures within the trans during acceleration, thus allowing the trans to shift. The solenoid is located in the valve body area inside the trans when the pan is removed. This is the best case cenario, worst case is the PCM has an internal short, requiring replacement.

is the solenoid expense and is it hard to remove and replace. if it is the worst case, where is the PCM located and how expense and hard is it to fix.

Repairing these parts is not an easy task. The trans has many small check valves in the valve body that are placed in key areas and must be replaced in the same order. The PCM is the computer of the vehicle, and On your vehicle I believe it is mounted under the seat or behind the kick plate inside front passenger side. I would recommend that you take the vehicle to an AAMCO and have them try to pull any codes from the PCM. (they will do this for free). At this point you will get an idea of where to start. Otherwise replacing expensive PCM's is the last thing you want to do ($$)

2000 Ford Crown Victoria (police pkg) wont start?

The first thing you need to do is have the computer scanned for trouble codes to narrow down the possible causes. But that would require a code reader or scanner.
Have you checked fuel pressure with a gauge ? Are you getting spark to the plugs ? Because of the moan from the pump, there's a good chance the pump has failed.

2001 crown victoria running find when started. sometimes it doesn't start but sounds like it wants to. turned off once at a red light. turned off 3 times while making hard turns three months ago. Now...

Check and make sure your battery connections havent been compromised. I once drove a car not at all similar to yours, but experienced the same problem, random killing, especially when braking, and turning. It turned out that the battery positive cable would slip on the terminal as it wasnt secured tightly. It sounds simple, but it is a possibility.

How hard is it to replace the rear brakes on a 2000 crown victoria? Itis not a police interceptor. How do I tell if it has a steel piston or a plastic piston?

Brakes are one thing and calipers are another. Go to your local AP store and buy loaded calipers. All you have to do is install them and bleed your brakes. If not sure buy a repair manual for it and read up before you start.
