Sometimes when replacing the hub the lower control arm is bent or turned making things grind into the lower brackets take the wheel off and make sure the axle is centered with the wheel well.

Is there a bearing or bushing on the shaft that the left axle slides onto on a 1999 Bonneville se?

i have been fooled by this one way to many times. when a wheel bearing or hub assesembly is making noise, it will sound like it is comming from the other side. i do not know why this is. but one test will prove if and which one. when growling noise occurs, notice, when turning left or right, does noise get louder and quieter as you turn? if so then it is wheel bearing. when turning left the right side will make more noise. when turning right the left side will make more noise. if always the same then, tires or transmission need addressing. the cv axle does not make a growling noise, unless front wheel drive car does not move, it makes a clicking or poping noise. sorry but at least you dont have to replace other axle

Lots of noise comming from free wheel hub and bearing while in two wheel drive and just before comming to a stop it actually feels like it engages i took the free wheel hub off and the noise stopped a

the freewheeling hubs work when the axle is driving by transfereing the drive to the hubs from the axle. If you remove the hubs and the noise goes I suggest the problem is not in the hubs but in the cv joint just inside the hub. When you engage the F/Wheel hubs you are loading up these cv joints and if they are worn then that is when you will get the noise

Front hub wabling do i chage and what step do i use to repair and do i change the front axle while its apart

Definitely replace the wheel bearing/hub. I drive a lot of miles and usually am doing this repair on a car with over 100K miles. Since the axles are relatively inexpensive, I have been replacing them at the same time. You will already have done most of the work anyhow to get the hub replaced.

Can a wheel puller be used to take off the front hub&bearing on a 2001 dodge durango

no. just take out the 3 bolts. if it doenst come out, you may need to reinstall the bolts, but leave them slightly loose and put a socket on the end of the bolts and hit with a hammer.

I would like to know if the wheel bearing is in the shaft or the hub?

The Constant Velocity (CV) joints are located on the inner and outer edges of the axle shaft. The axle shaft runs through the hub and bearing in the spindle.

You have a bad wheel bearing, when you turn away from the bad bearing the wheel bearing is un-loaded and quiets down.
