Question about 1998 Pontiac Sunfire
The contacts inside the ignition switch that keep the electrical system powered up during the run position are most likely worn and/or burnt together, thus not allowing the ignition to shut the engine off. The part is an electrical component in the steering column, not the actual key switch.
