Question about 2004 Mercury Mountaineer

1 Answer

Rough transmission shifting, definite transmission issues. Is this a mandatory transmission replacement at 109,000 miles or is there an transmission overhaul or a possible minor fix in the transmission.

Take it to a reputable trans shop or the dealer to have it checked out.

Can I disable the auto downshift on mountain drives and not hurt my tansmission? It'd dis shift is so rough is scares me!

You can not disable the automatic downshift if it is a harsh shift you have a defective transmission or other shift control issue. I would go with the transmission being defective. Has the fluid and filter ever been changed? should be done at about 60,000 miles for optimum transmission life and function.

2004 cavalier transmission rough shift

That intermittent rough shift would be caused by the computer.Disconnect the ground post from battery for a couple of days so the computer will reset back to OEM specs when recharged after the battery is re-connected.Computers just need time to "forget"what they were doing and will reset.

My 2003 accord jerks when you want to suddenly accelerate

So, when you punch the gas, the transmission shifts gears, and jerks when shifting? If it's a rough shift, first check your transmission fluid for proper level and condition. It should be a good pink color. Dark brown or dirty fluid with a stinky burnt odor is an indication your fluid needs draining and replacing. Actually, most manufacturers recommend replacing fluid and transmission filter every 2 years, or about every 60,000 miles, for longer life of the transmission.
I hope this helps your problem. Good luck.

Been having some transmission issue with my 2009 CRV. First off about a week after getting it, I started noticing every time i took my foot off of the accelerator it would downshift, sometimes quite...

Definitely something wrong within the transmission. Hondas have never been the smoothest shifting transmissions, especially with some miles on them. What you are experiencing is beyond that though. Get a second or third opinion from different dealers.

Transmission shifts hard after driving for 15 to 20 miles.

There is a possibility the transmission is overheating, probably due to clogged cooling lines in the radiator. The transmission fluid is pumped through hoses to the radiator where it goes through cooling lines built into the radiator for this purpose. If the flow of transmission fluid through these lines is restricted, the transmission will overheat, and rough/hard shifting will result. Unless you are experienced at this sort of thing, I would recommend you take the car to a good shop to get this checked out. At the very least, you will have to have the radiator replaced. At worst, you might have to replace or rebuild the transmission.

I have an internal transmission problem in my 2001 Odyssey.

My wife and I are just resolving this same problem. You need to request a copy of Honda Service Bulletin # 02-062 which is titled "warranty extension: Accord, Odyssey, and Prelude Automatic Transmission. The warranty is for 7 years nine months or 109,000 miles. You are with in both of those aspects. Your dealer should have informed you of this and your transmission is should be completely covered with a replacement that should have an additional 1 year of warranty and 12,000 more miles. I took this issue to Honda America direct and they are in the processing of re-imbursing me for the cost of our transimssion repair.
