Question about 2000 Ford Taurus
Check you EGR or your IAC valve. If either of these are bad they will make your car run rough and would also make you have all the problems that you are describing. I would take it to another mechanic and have them run the check engine light code. That will tell you exactly what is going on. If you are not leaking oil everywhere, you do not have broken valves or pistons then you do not need a new motor. Your car and motor are to new to need a new one. especially if it never over heated. Your mechanic is just trying to make a big buck
