Question about 2001 Saturn SL

My 2001 Saturn will not shift from park

I was on the way home from work today when my 2001 Saturn's odometer and gas gauge stopped working. When I pulled into the reiveway and turned off the ignition, I noticed the door lock/unlock also quit working. I tried to start the car and put it into gear to see if the automatic locking would work and the shifter would not move from the park position. What could cause this combination of problems?

When my 2001 L200 did this it was the body control module. There is a button under the shifter boot that will allow you to put the car in gear. It did not effect the engine so you can drive it but it will do all kind of weird things with the lights, door locks, and gauges.

You need to find an authorized Saturn repair center or a good Chevy dealer. Some independents can fix it as well.

Our 2001 L200 just did the exact same thing (i.e. intermittently car would not come out of park although it would start, remotes would not open doors or trunk, etc. ) We were able to override via the shifter boot and drove it to the dealership for diagnosis. They had it in the shop for two days trying to get it to replicate...of course it wouldn't. They called for us to come pick it up and when they got ready to pull it around for us to leave IT.DID.IT. Body control module (bcm) is the suspected culprit. It's being repaired as we speak to the tune of nearly $650. oh. my.

My cars gauges just stopped working last weekend.

Could be a fuse. Have somebody who knows about cars look at the instrument cluster fuse to see if the wire inside is broken.

No dash lights when headlights are turned on. Everything works fine on my vehicle EXCEPT today the panel lights don't work. Turn signals, hazard blinker, oil gauge, rpm gauge, speedometer, drive shift...

there is a regulator for the display brightness, you may have it turn'd down or it has stopped working;. it controls the brightness at which the dash lights are. usually has a speedo sign on it. goes up and down. it works with the main light and is conecter to them on the same lighting board if it has gone then a new light swtch control switch will be needed.

Speedometer and odometer not working

I would look at the ignition switch and the neutral safety switch for voltage. It could be the ignition switch is worn out and not making contact with all of the circuits. The neutral safety switch would be affected by moving the shifter.

2001 saturn sl200, odometer stuck 634,578 miles probably closer to 95,000 miles. any idea how to repair?

i can tell you this was a very common problem on the 91-94 S series instrument cluster, so common that an odometer repair kit was sold on eBay for just a few bucks. so you could go look at eBay and see if there is an odometer repair kit for the 00 & 01 S series as I think they were not made after 01 and the 95-99 clusters were different. A search on always turns up interesting Saturn repair videos.

Odometer not working

Get rid of this car. There is a design flaw in that the timing chain does not get oil and will eventually fail. Some failed in as little as 20,000 miles. Mine failed at 78,000 miles which is real common. I just read on here someone was lucky to get over 100,000 miles on theirs but do you really think you will be that lucky?

No odometer reading

unfortunately, the car's BCM or body control module is bad. only a dealer or repair shop that can program it(which is very few) can perform this repair

2001 Saturn SL1 instrument panel stopped working....

erique000, on Feb 06, 2009 you posted a comment about your odometer and gas gauge stopped working. Did you ever find the problem. I have a 2001 sl1 and the same thing occured but also the rpm gauge and the speedometer registered nothing. They all just sit at e or 0. Approx 20 miles later the car died. It will still turn over, but won't start. If you have a chance, please respond to
Thanks, Tom.
