The starter motor is no good, it's drawing to many amps and that why the cable get's hot, try hitting the starter while some one holds the key to start, it might start, but you will still need a new starter, replace it, I know it's easier said then done the way money is these days.

Where do you jumpstart a locked car?

hook hot lead on starter from under car put on big red wire the end is small so use a pair of vise grips between cables and starter ground other end then turn on or hook to other battery. to break into car use wedge in door top to open a gap to get wire in to unlock.

Mitsubishi galant 2002 - Will not start, even with jumper cables. When turned on just hear one click noise, never had any problems till today. Hook up a newer battery and same problem, cleaned the battery...

Check the starter. The clicking is caused by the starter solenoid engaging, but the starter not turning over. This will more than likely need to be replaced.

I have put 5 starters on my car. They work good for 2 or 3 wks. then it's back to the click, click until it cranks.Any suggestions?

Sounds like your loosing power to the starter motor (big wire at starter), the small wire is good cause you hear it clicking, that's the solenoid, next time it clicks, need to check voltage at big wire on starter with test light, while some one holds key to start, if you loose voltage, check wire at both ends, battery and at starter.

Truck won't start

could be bad ground?get a set of good booster cables and put ground cable to battery, and other end to good ground on engine.
try that.
you can also hook red booster to + on battery, and other end to big nut on starter.[BE VERY CARFULL ON STARTER NOT TO GROUND + CABLE WHEN PUTTING ON...........USUALLY VERY TIGHT AROUND STARTER].....IF YOU TRY SECOND METHOD PUT CABLE ON STARTER FIRST AND THEN TO BATTERY.IF + SIDE HITS GROUND THERE WILL BE LOTS OF SPARKS,REMOVE IMMEDIATLY.
try ground first,if ok you have bad ground wire connection somewere.
be very carefull with + side.

Even though the lights work the battery should be load tested to see if it can handle a heavy amp. draw like the starter. If you have a battery charger, but it on the battery and leave it for a few hours. Also check the battery connections to be sure they are clean. If it starts check to make sure the alternators is chargeing the battery.

I can't start my car and it clicks once when tried.

Wow!!! Normally clicking when starting means dead battery. If the cables started glowing / getting hot, you hooked them up wrong.
Black goes to - on both cars Red goes to + on both cars.

most likley the positive wire has corroded off the starter. look at the small red wire more closely, if theres alot of corosion, replace the wire (and starter if needed) if you dont see much corrosion give the wire a good tug just to see if it really is hooked up well. you should disconnect the batt. before doing any of this.hope this helps and good luck
