Question about 2005 GMC Envoy

Open Question

Replacing valve guides in a 2005 GMC Envoy 5.3L?

Under the assumption that I need to replace valve guides in a 2005 GMC Envoy 5.3L engine. Consuming 3+ qts oil every 3,000 mile oil change. no leaks. Only have 70K mile on it. Black tail pipe and a cloud of smoke once in a great while. No other indications that I am burning that much oil. Runs great, plenty of power, plugs look ok. 30 sec of lifter noise at start up- GM standard to me. Gm says No problem oil consumption is 1 qt every 2k miles.

SOURCE: 2007 GMC Yukon using a quart of Oil every 2000 - 3000 miles

Sounds funny, I would take it to an indepened repair shop and have them check it out, we have many customer's with Yukon and have not heard of that, I have a GMC with over 315,000 miles and between oil changes, maybe a qts low, have it check else where.

SOURCE: My 2006 GMC Envoy Denali seems to be burning oil-

Had the same problem. There is an updated PCV system as the original drew oil from the crankcase and filled the intake manifold. TB on this (don't know the number). Make sure they clean out your intake manifold as there was oil pooled in mine. If you rev to 2000 rpm in park you can see blue smoke prior to fix.

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome to the site. These big engines burn oil a lot, but not that much. If you haven't already, you need to get under the engine and check the back wall of the motor for oil leaks. Since there is no black smoke, your fine on the back end. Have you checked the back wall from underneathe? Also, is your check engine light on? Thanks.

SOURCE: 2006 gmc envoy denali 5.3, no oil leaks, 61000 miles, steady vacuum gauge reading at 16, runs and starts very good. Takes 1 quart of oil per 1300 to 1500 miles, no exhaust smoking. Why so much oil ?

Google search GM 5.3 oil consumption. This is a known and common issue.

How can I remove valve cover?

4.2 engine? It takes a bit to get it off. Why do you want to get to them? I can say these aren't your problem. And if they are, you have other problems that replacing them is only a short term fix.

2004 Envoy xuv 6 cyl when I turn on the A/C the truck stalls but as long as I keep my foot on the gas it will continue to run

Is your "Service engine soon" light on?? If so, have your vehicle's computer scanned for error codes. If not, Clean or replace the IAC valve (idle air control valve). This unit controls airflow through the engine while the gas pedal isnt pressed or A/C is powered on.

2005 GMC Envoy 4wd 4.2liter V6 check engine light is on.

The check valve is #12619128 and the gasket is #24577193. I think $65 and $75 respectively you can try websites like and
your talking about the diverter valve for the AIR pump. In which case it is easy to do and its easily accesible in the engine bay. The valve is located at the passenger side by the transmission dipstick tube under the intake tube. Good luck
