Since you have a new thermostat installed and no heat and overheatingyou have one of two or a combination of problems. You either have a bad water pump or a clogged radiator. The radiator can be flow checked at a radiator shop, if it flow checks fine replace the water pump. The pump may not have play in it indicating it is bad, but the shaft inside cold be broken so that the fan turns and the pulley turns on the outside but not internally where it counts.

check your blower motor under the passenger side of the dash, round plastic box three screws pull it out something might have fallen though your cowl and chewed up the fan blades. as for the ac your r-12 is probly empty or has a leak bring it to a local garage and have them flush and fill your cooling system. heater would be your thermostat not openig properly, by far your cheapest fix under ten dollar part.

Most likely the problem is an intermittent vacuum problem or sticking air blend door between the outside air and interior. Check all you vacuum lines for leaks and check the hot water control valve on the water line that runs from the engine to the firewall.

1990 toyota 4runner heater is blowing cold air

could be your heater core, um try checking the heater assembly in the dash, something may have broke so the heat isn't being switched over, and it is staying on cold. Regularly check the fluids in the motor and top up as needed

you let the water drop in the header tank by how much?? half a gall!!! there must be a very big warter leak there some were,,,letting the water drop so far has let air into the water jaket in the engine so you need to bleed this air out from the bleed velve in one of the top water hoses,,,
your a lucky chap to get away with this one??? carry a big bottol of rad seal around with you?

Smells like anti freeze and smokes alot when given gas and also smokes when idleing under the airfilter on the passenger side of an 1990 supra yo

If there is white smoke coming out of that location, chances are that you have a heater core leak. Hot radiator fluid passes through 2 smaller radiator tubes to the heater core. Air from the fan is passed over the heat exchanger, and hot air blows out. White smoke = steam. You can block off the heater core tubes until you can get it replaced.

I have a 1996 4runner and the heater will not blow out any hot air and the selector is on hot. What do i need to do to fix it?

1) Make sure your coolant level is FULL.
2) Check your thermostat, it may be stuck open, not allowing the engine to heat up sufficiently to heat the heater core. Have you noticed the temp. guage running cooler than before?
3) Could be the mixing door. This is the door that opens allowing hot air from your heater core into the box that the blower motor circulates the hot air through your cabin with. This maybe happening because the cable that opens the door is malfunctioning.
4) If all this fails, call your local auto parts store and ask if there is a eletromechanical valve in your heater hose. If there is, just buy it and install it if its cheap enough.
