Question about 2003 Volkswagen Passat

2 Answers

I have a volkswagen passat diesel estate car less than 1 year old. Something smells like it is burning when I take it for a short drive. What is the level of the pink coolant supposed to be? Right now it is just below the joint in the ball shaped recepticle.

The pink coolant is the VW own brand of anti freeze (without ethylene glycol)it is better for the environment and you cant kill cats/dogs with it....
as far as the smell is concerned,it is normal as the underbody(all of it)is paited with rustproofer at the factory and it has to "burn off".

After about 5 minutes of driving there is a smell of gas...not burning gas... just gas... this scent becomes more prominent when I am stopped. What could be the issue?

of course look carefully for a gas leak everywhere under hood even dripping on ground while engine is running in park with brake set another system on newer cars is a vapor recovery system that basically burns fuel vapor that's the dead space in top of your fuel tank so it won't leak out and damage the environment (helps your mpg as well) there are several tanks and tubes, valves that are assoc with this system that might need looked at , till u get it fixed take care to driving this with windows up gas vapor can have same effect as alcohol on the human body
could be a simple fix of a defective fuel tank cap or something a bit more complex

too bad you did'nt get the diesel passat there my fav's

What cause oil burning smells after 4, 5 minutes driving 2001 VW Passat?

You may have a leaking valve cover gasket and oil is making it's way down to the exhaust or something else that gets very hot. Check your cylinder head for excessive oil dripping down off of the base of the valve cover. Check your power steering pump and hoses for leaks. After you get to where you're driving, look under the car and see where the oil spots are, if there are any. If it's dark or black in color, it's engine oil. If it's more like a red-ish color, it's transmission fluid. See where the oil spot is on the ground and check the engine and see about where it could be leaking.

Will the weight of 20inche rims hurt the transmission of a 2 wheel drive 2001 VW Passat, and I smell a burning rubber smell in my Passat when I turn the heat on and 15mins later it goes away, what is that...

No, the weight of the wheels isnt the problem. Jack the car up and look at the inside wall of your tires, they are probably rubbing somewhere. On some cars, when you install different rims, you need to buy spacers that go between wheel and the rotor. If you dont, the tires can rub. Sometimes they only rub when turning. See if this is your problem. Hope this helps

I purchased a 2003 late 52 plate vw passat 2.0 petrol 130 sport after a few days the oil light came on then i topped it up after two weeks of driving local i found i done a check and found it needed...

from the VW manual........"expect to use about 1 litre for every 500 km."the oil level should be checked every week".........some cars have a breather on the side of the block that needs cleaning every year.(looks like a metal canister about 2.1/2" tall by 4"wide with a hose to the inlet manifold/air cleaner).

Break failiure

Well sounds to me like you might have some moisture in the fluid which can cause the breaks to fail. Have your break system flushed totally out and refilled. Brake fluid is very touchy. If you leave brand new brake fluid bottle open for a few days it will draw moisture from the air and ruin the fluid.
