Starting on page 23 of the owners manual explains the ESP/TCS (not BAS) waring light and what turns it on, I have copy and pasted that from the owners manual for your 2008 Wrangler, but in a nut shell it means a malfunction has occurred in the Traction control and electronic stability program, this is part of the ABS (anti lock brakes) system, there are many components that can cause this system to turn on the light and to find out which part or system is at fault the system must be tested by the dealer with a special Jeep electronic scanner to access the fault code(s) that are stored when this light stays on, if the light comes on and then goes of while u are moving that is normal and means the system is doing its job of controlling loss of traction at the tires such as a skid. here is the owners manual explanation as copied.

this is from page 213-214 of owners manual for the 2008 jeep wrangler

    26. Electronic Stability Program (ESP) Indicator

Light/Traction Control System (TCS) Indicator Light

This indicator light starts to flash as soon as the

tires lose traction and the ESP system becomes

active. The ESP/TCS Indicator Light also

flashes when TCS is active. If the ESP/TCS

Indicator Light begins to flash during acceleration, ease

up on the accelerator and apply as little throttle as

possible. Be sure to adapt your speed and driving to the

prevailing road conditions. The ESP/TCS Indicator Light

will flash anytime the ESP or TCS is active and helping to

improve vehicle stability. If the ESP/TCS Indicator Light

is on solid, the ESP system has been turned off by the

driver or a temporary condition exists that will not allow

full ESP function. also would please verify u don't have the system turned off.

CORRECTION, there is a ESP/BAS light as well, same system as above and same explanation.

ESP/BAS WARING LIGHT, COPIED FROM PAGE 214 OF OWNERS MANUAL:

    Electronic Stability Program (ESP)/Brake Assist

    System (BAS) Warning Light

The ESP/BAS Warning Light in the instrument

cluster comes on when the ignition switch is

turned to the ON position. The light should go

out with the engine running. If the ESP/BAS Warning

Light comes on continuously with the engine running, a

malfunction has been detected in either the ESP or the

BAS system. If this light stays illuminated, have the ESP

and BAS checked at your authorized dealer as soon as

possible. Refer to “Electronic Brake Control System” in

    Section 3 for more information.

BAS LIGHT FROM SECTION 3 PAGE 105

    ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL SYSTEM

Your vehicle is equipped with an advanced electronic

brake control system that includes ABS (Anti-Lock Brake

System), TCS (Traction Control System), BAS (Brake

Assist System), ERM (Electronic Roll Mitigation), and

ESP (Electronic Stability Program). All five of these

systems work together to enhance vehicle stability and

    control in various driving conditions.

The light that shows a car with squigly lines behind it is ESP warning light, owing to a system permanent failure.
If ESP/ABS lights ON you do not have any ESP/ABS (Electronic Stability Program / Anti-lock Brake System) on the vehicle !!!
ESP electronic control unit (ESP ECU) includes ABS ECU, and can be accessed using a diagnostic scantool connected to the Data Link Connector (DLC) of the car. After ESP ECU memory scaning from internal errors, (Diagnostic Trouble Codes - DTC memored), you will be able to know exactly what piece is damaged. After bad piece replacing you will be able to erase the ESP ECU memory from internal faults, and reset ABS ECU = turn OFF the ABS brake light.

Usually means the wheel sensor is bad or a wiring problem to that sensor. The warning lights are on to tell you those systems are turned off.

What does it mean when your engine light, esp and bas light comes on

ESP = electronic stabilitly program, BAS = brake assist system. There could be a number of issues causing these lights to come on. Loose sensor connector at one or more wheel locations. Build up of dirt and grim on the sensor or sensor wheel can also cause these lights to come on, These are the two easiest thoings you can do, otherwise, a service call will need to be made at your local Jeep dealer due to the complexity of this system.

My esp and bas light will not go off on my 2007 jeep wrangler how can i get it off and what does it mean and also is thera a code that i need to get it off

The ESP/BAS system is a separate system from the engine computer/check engine light system, if your steering wheel is off center just a 1/2 degree, the light will set. Most scanners will not detect a code. It takes the Jeep protocol to reset it.
I hope this helps.

go to a local garage that specilizes in electric repair and get a better quote. Most likely a faulty body control module is your problem

2008 wrangler. abs, esp and traction control light staying on. checked brake fluid and fuses

Check first the third eye brake light. does it work? okay the problem reside in a ABS sensor make sure it is hook up or if you recently did a brake job it didnt get contaminated. When the ABS signal is interfered with ESP,Traction is disabled. One or some of the wheel speed sensor is disconnected or is being interfered with. This is common for a recent brake job if any occured

Esp/bas light on, steering wheel off center after off roading

If your steering wheel is off center, this can cause the problem. Luckily this is very easy to fix -- you can do so even if you have little to no experience working on your vehicle.
1. Park the vehicle with the wheels facing straight ahead (drift forward until you are moving in a straight line). Don't worry about the steering wheel position. 2. Locate the steering drag link -- the diagonal rod coming from the bottom of the steering arm to the top of the passenger side steering knuckle (on the axle near the tire) 3. Loosen the two bolts on the rotating adjustment collar on this link. I believe these are 13mm. 4. Rotate the collar one way about two or three turns, check the steering wheel to ensure that the "Jeep" logo is perfectly horizontal. If it's not, continue rotating the collar (or move it in the opposite direction) until the wheel is centered. 5. Tighten down the nuts on the drag link adjuster. 6. Take her for a test drive and let me know how it worked!
