D4 is a transmission problem. It wouldn't cause the car not to start. If you don't hear the pump coming on when the key is turned on, Most likely the pump died. Could be the fuse or wiring also. Check grounds. Both could be a bad ground.
if you feel savvy enough, check to see if it produces spark and also check if the fuel pump is working. If no spark usually a problem in the distributor. if no fuel coming out of the fuel line, maybe bad fuel pump. need to check if pump is not working.
Listen for 2 to 3 second prime on fuel pump when the key is turned to the on position. Make sure every thing is as quiet as possible when doing this. also it may take several tries to hear it so make sure you wait at least 10-15 seconds before each try . the fuel-pump should also run while cranking. Do this and re-post and we'll take ti from there!--thanks
If the car dies after it runs for a minute then I would suspect either the fuel pump or the fuel pump relay. Turn the key on but not to run, you should hear the fuel pump for about 5 seconds, you could also check the fuel injector rail for fuel pressure, just put a rag over the shrader valve before depressing it, if the pump is making pressure it will squirt out. If still no luck pull the fuel pump relay and jumper the hot wires and listen for the pump.
Its called a Main Fuel Pump Relay.. It controls Fuel Pump, Starter, Ignition.. and Like 12 things.. Get one And I guarantee that'll fix it.. It looks like a cell phone on the upper inside of the dash.. about 52 Bucks from the dealer.. Try it
