Question about 2004 Ford E150

1 Answer

My ford has a 5.4 triton and it has a noise in the motor that sounds like a exhaust leak but I can't see where it is leaking. The dealer said it is a noise that they all make.

These trucks have a variable cam timing system.
Do this. Go to flateratetech.com. Click on videos. Scroll down and pick the VCT Timing one.

Grab a beer and some popcorn and watch the very boring video. It will give you sounds and locations of where to diagnose. The tech was right about they all do this, but they also can be fixed.

2005 ford focus makes a roaring noise while in park when you press on the gas. Sounds like it's come from the back of motor where exhaust connects to motor. ????

My friend's 2004 Focus was doing the same thing - especially loud when accelerating from a stop. When it reached stable speed, it got much quieter. We thought it was exhaust also, but couldn't find any cracks, gaps, or obvious leaks. We brought it to a garage, and they found a bad motor mount. When the engine was under load, it would torque (against either the frame or firewall) and make the loud, irritating noise. A new engine mount, and it sounds almost new again.

What could it be when i excellurated i heard a loud noise an oil started leaking under the van and smoking making loud nocking noise

Sounds like big end bearing gone and oil would probably be coming from gear box and engine seam and falling on exhaust its sounds like a pretty stuffed motor but everything is fixable depending on how much coin it coast and if its worth it cya Neil

Knock with exhaust leak from backside of motor

Often an exhaust manifold leak can sound like a knock. Some year models of Escorts were prone to bad exhaust manifolds. You could also have a bad head gasket.

A compression test would be needed to determine the problem.

1983 f150 with 351 windsor. Recent problem of bogging down when climbing moderate hills. Also sounds of ticking noise, lifters or manifolds leak? Any help much appreciated.

A leaking exhaust manifold could make a ticking noise. So could a lifter or valve. The exhaust noise would be louder under load.
If the carb is running too lean, or you have a vac leak, the lean fuel mixture could make the exhaust leak worse, and cause the loss of power.

Has a clicking noise in motor gets louder when motor warms up

possibly an exhaust leak, the closer to the head it is the louder it gets. however it could be a partially collapsed lifter, and when you rev the motor the increased oil pressure fills it back up. hope this helps, good luck

Ticking/Tapping when car starts but goes away???

I had what sounds like the exact same problem. It was an exhaust leak from the left (driver's) side exhaust manifold. This engine has a history of the manifold bolts breaking and causing the exhaust leak. The engine is also used on some Dodge vehicles. It sounds like a tick and I almost mistook it for a bad lifter. I took it to the local Jeep dealer who confirmed the exhaust leak. I replaced the left manifold completely and replaced bolts/gaskets on both sides (left/right) and it fixed the problem. Be careful, as the dealer tried to gouge me on the price. You are looking in the ball park of $600 parts/labor. I got parts for $120 and it took the better part of a work day to do the job.

Ticking of 5.4 l triton motor on a truck iam about to buy

pritty much. The lifters are making the sound. Chevy motors do it as well. I do not like it but both manufacturers say it is ok. I do not hink they should have metal on metal like that. The only 2 things that the triton was known for is the head gaskets leaking from the head on the rear passenger side of the motor down on the starter and coolant leaking from the heater core hose down on the passenger rear coil and spark plug. Good motors they seem to run for ever.
