No. its blinking because the engine is misfiring so bad that it is damaging the cat converter. the converter may already be bad, but you need to fix the misfiring problem or it can damage the new converter.

Van is sputtering

Hello Eric Tillman,

My favorite (after assuring fuel & fire) is of course the EXHAUST SYSTEM...

A collapsing catalytic converter or rotted muffler can very easily plug your engine tighter than a tick...

I have never found a SNAPPY way to test for this
(open exhaust at bottom of manifold... if it starts... you know what YOU MUST FIX BEFORE running it.

Hope this helps!

In my 07 impala my engine light is on. both mufflers have big holes in them. will this throw off the oxygen sensors and give me an error reading? when i got it checked it said evap emission ckt check,

The ECU doesn't usually detect muffler issues since they are located beyond the emissions portion (mufflers are essentially for noise not emissions) Mufflers usually have small holes located on the lowest rear-most part to allow condensation to escape. If the holes are big enough for a pencil to fit in, yes you have rusty mufflers. They aren't the problem most likely, but that rust indicates age and poor condition of the entire emissions system. Most issues are in the form of leaks (vaccum or EGR) or sensors O2, MAP or MAF, or you could have a clogged catalytic converter all can be checked by a reputable mechanic if you are overwhelmed.

Muffler gets to hot

Is engine running OK? If so and the muffler is an economy muffler, take it back to where you had it installed and see what they will do for you. If the engine IS NOT running right , it may be running to lean and tat causes an overly hot exhaust system. You may need to have the engine diagnosed for performance issues.

Difficult to start up sounds sluggish, once shut off, won't start, coil was hot (coil recently replaced). Needs new muffler.

Replace spark plugs with new ones. put new muffler in. The muffler has an affect on the way engine runs. (back pressure) is needed. At this age you may need a head gasket(s). Compression check on all cylinders. The list goes on... Good luck

Engine Back fired, blew out muffler.

Sounds like you may have gotten some debris in your exhaust pipe or something was clogging your muffler. Maybe the innerds of you Catalytic Coverter went and got stuck or the innerds of your muffler gave out. That would be the only few things I could think of to cause something like that.
