Turn ACC on at low temperature. Open the hood to see if the AC compressor clutch either is engaged or cycles on and off. And also see if the radiator fan is on. The ACC and ACC radiator fan relay should pull them both on.

Would a closed thermostat stop the radiator fan from turning on when the temperature is within heat turns on when I turn ac on,is that a different cause when not using ac.

There are two different thermostats--one in the cooling system, and one just to turn on fans. The AC has a separate circuit to turn on fans regardless of engine temp, so tind the the fan thermostat and test it.

When turning on the ac, radiator fan will not come on, not for engine cooling also. Can anyone suggest a cause... In a 2006 sonata

the radiator fan usually only come on when the radiator gets so hot. if it is not working and your car is overheating I would test your fuses and relays and see if one of them is bad I would also test the fan motor to see if it works.

I have a 2001 lancer there is water leaking from somewhere at the bottom of the radiator and the fans are not working when I turn the engine on what could this be, thanks Fiona

Almost certainly the radiator requires cleaning or most likely for a 10 year old car, replacing. Have a garage look at it. I'd expect that the lower 1/4 of the radiator is deteriorated (corroded) badly. You should replace the radiator hoses and clamps at the same time.

The fans do not come on immediately when you start the engine. One comes on automatically when the temperature gets high enough: there's a temperature switch in the bottom of the radiator that controls this. The other fan is for the A/C and turns on when needed. It usually starts when the A/C is turned on and the car is not moving.

When the car is moving more than about 20kph the fans are generally not needed.

I have a 1999 vw passat and i need to remove the radiator in order to change the fan. how do i remove the radiator?

Well, there is a catch 22 to your plan. In order to remove the radiator you have to remove the fan first. Check around the housing for the fan, you should find plastic pressure clips that hold the fan in place. Release the clips and you should be able to lift the fan housing and shroud out or drop it through to the bottom of the vehicle. To remove the radiator you have to remove the fan shroud and fan in order to locate and remove the retaining bolts for the radiator. There are usually 2 on the bottom of the Radiator sometimes accessible from the bottom of the vehicle and 2 near the top of the radiator, usually covered by the fan shroud.

What is the fan in front of the radiator for? My 1996 corollas fan does not work, do i need to pull the radiator to replace it?

that fan is to help cool radiator when needed although it doesn't usually turn on until the car coolant temperature is around 200-220 degrees depending on where u live this time of year the coolant may never get that warm to need the fan to come on
as far as having to remove the radiator you might have to remove radiator but usually u can just remove radiator mounts and tilt the radiator forward enough to allow fan to come out

1999 Hyndai Accent 1500 cc high cooling water temp.

over heating while stopped usually indicates that the radiator fan is not coming on ...when the engine is running hot you should be able to hear the fan running .. if it doesnt then suspect the thermal switch mounted on the radiator .. make sure the fan turns freely .. the fan is not needed when the car is moving so it wont heat up as long as you are driving .. but will do so when stopped if thats the trouble .. sometimes the thermal switch operates a relay that in turn operates the fan ..that could also cause the trouble ..

99 honda civic lx, my fans are'nt turning? Could this be a fuse??

Do you mean radiator fans or heater fans?

If radiator fans, they don't work all the time, but only when it gets too hot. When the car is not moving, they will usually go on eventually. But in normal speeds, you don't need fans.

If there is a problem, it is usually the relay, but could be the ground, one of two fuses, or the temperature sensor. The main fuse is a big one, because they draw more electricity then anything else. The switch is usually in the radiator, and powers the relay primary from a small fuse. The relay secondary then goes from the large fuse to the fan, and back through ground.

Let me know if you mean the heater fan.

How do i change the radiator?

first you need to get a good drain pan and drain the antifreeze out of the radiator buy turning the Valve wich is located usually on the side towards the bottom or on the bottom of the radiator.
2.remove the bolts that hold on the fan shroud there is usually 4 bolts.
3. move the fan shroud towards the engine and now remove the radiator hoses be carefull with the lower because there is going to be antifreeze in it yet.
4.very very carefully loosen the Copper lines going into the radiator. these lines are your Transmission cooler lines and are very easy to twist off.
5. remove the radiator mounting bolts and remove radiator upwards. instalation is in reverse of this
hope this helped you out

thank you

Fan by the radiator stays on after the car is turned off

some models will allow the fan to continue to run after the key is turned off Check to see if there is a sticker somewhere near the radiator that says "fan may start at anytime even when engine is not running"of something like that.......if not it is probably the fan sensor switch.........they are usually either in the intake manifold or sometimes in the radiator.(also in the housing near the thermostat)
