Question about 1995 Chevrolet Lumina
I have a 95 chevy lumina. the water pump went bad and caused it to overheat and water into oil. put it in shop and had new head gaskets put on and new pump. now guy tells me the lifters are ticking. he said he noticed when was takne apart that 2 of them looked kinda loose. but he said that car has hydrolic lifters that adjust themselves and there is no way for him to adjust them. he said they build up pressure and possibly after the car runs a while it will build up and be fine. is this true?
It is possible that some water got into the lifters and after it runs for a while, it will quiet down. However it disturbs me that he noticed them being "kinda loose" and did not investigate further while the head was off.
At that time, all he needed to do was reach over and pull the lifter out of it's bore and look to see if the cam end was worn. (if so, it needs a new cam and lifters) Same applies to rocker pivots. if loose, why?
That is no different than doing brakes, seeing a bad hub bearing and ignoring it.
At this point, since it is all together and running, I'd add a quart of marvel oil and hope it clears it up...otherwise the engine will need to come apart again.
They did change the oil after the job was completed?
