    - I replaced the ignition modulator two years ago because it wouldnt stay running this is just when I try to start
the battery is fine because I can run all battery operated items the problem is I turn the key I get nothing sometimes if I turn the key as far as it will go it works other times nope but thats why I thought ignition itself was badthe really weird thing is it does not do this in cold weather but the last two spring and summers

Hi! Could it be the ignition? Anything weird on the engine? Lets have a look on the engine first before replacing the ignition.

1st off you need to check the computer for stored fault codes that would explain this problem, based on my experience u will need to most likely replace a component in the electronic ignition system, very likely the crankshaft position sensor or the ignitiopn module, known as the CKP sensor. go to the link below for a link to the web site that shows u how to retrieve the fault codes from the computer control module, which is called the ECM.

this type of problem needs to have the basic testing done before anything is replaced, I am not saying the Ign module is defective, i just said it is one of the suspect parts that the fault code test can show, please do the test for codes as l outlined at the link I sent u in the last reply, I have been a factory certified Master electronic engine control tech for 30 years and I am giving u the best advice I know how to to get this problem fixed with the least expense.

I wasn't questing your advice simply stating that indeed at one time the ignition modular was bad so you hit that on the head how i offended you I dont know I was just relaying the total oddness of my car to give you more details

Is there a fuel reset switch in a 1990 Oldsmobile cutlass supreme

No GM doesn't use a reset switch (really called a "Inertia fuel pump cutoff switch"). The fuel pump is cut off by an oil pressure sensor. If this car has the original pump you likely just need to drop the fuel tank and replace the fuel pump. Does it start if you spray starting fluid into the engine air intake?

How to change a thermostat in a 97 oldsmobile cutlass supreme

3800 engine I suppose?
Pull the plastic cover ,at the engine side of the top radiator hose (you can leave the hose connected) remove the two 10 mm bolts and remove the housing. There is no gasket just an o ring.
Be sure the new o ring is on the stat correctly and sit it in the engine,WITH THE BRASS BUTTON SENSOR SIDE DOWN!!
Tighten the two bolts up a little at a time ,evenly, and not like a lug nut , don't forget it's only aluminum.
10 minute job.Be sure the parts store gives you a 190 or 192 degree stat,(a colder one will not let the computer fine tune for mileage)

I would like to know how to reset my oil light on a 90 Cutlass Supreme Oldsmobile

Try turning the ignition switch to the "RUN" position with the engine off. Fully depress and release the accelerator pedal three times in five seconds. The light will flash twice and go out. I know many GM vehicles use that method

Cutlass supreme oldsmobile 1990 running hot

Check to see if your electric radiator fan is turning on. These cars are known for the temperature switch that turns on the fan to go bad. Also, a highly overlooked problem, make sure the fins on your radiator and condenser aren't blocked with debris. Shine a flashlight on the opposite side and look through. Good luck!
