Question about 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix

Automatic windows do not work. Pulled the drivers door control panel and learned that applying pressure to the dark blue wire connection allows the control panel to work

Replace the bad connector should be able to find one in junk yard then splice th wires

Maybe its connected to a control panel (left side driver door) that needs to be activated. Some door switches have a safety feature that won't allow opening automatically. Check that feature.

What could be wrong with the power window switches


Do all the windows work from this switch? Could be the switch not sending power to the others. But, All Jeeps are bad for window regulators.

Specifically I'm trying to identify the wire on the spark plug coil assembly to which I should connect the signal wire of a Tachometer to. The wire colours are, red, yellow, green/white, and blue.


It says the tachometer wire is Yellow/Green, you do not have that listed. You will find it in the list below, it is highlighted..

Hi, that wire is disconnected when the door panel is removed to work on the window motor. Take the car back and ask them to reconnect your door locks. If you want to fix it yourself, you may be able to access the connector by removing only the control panel where the door lock switch is installed. Remove any visible screws and then pry gently to pull up the panel. Odds are, however, that the whole door panel will need to be pulled loose to find the cable. You can possibly just pull the bottom of the panel loose, but do it carefully. Feed the wire back up to the control panel and reconnect to the switch. Thanks for using Fixya.

Looking for wiring diagram for 2001 Firebird power window. Driver side is down and won't go up. Passenger side works. I have power going to drivers side and not passenger side from the driver control...


You'll need to pull the door panel and check for power and ground at the 2 wire connector located near the window motor (there should be a dark blue wire and a brown wire). With a test light there should be power on one of the two wires at any time. If there is power on both wires with the switch in the up position than the switch is bad. If the only wire powered up in the up position is the dark blue wire than try tapping the motor while holding the switch in the up position. If it starts to work than the motor is bad.

On a side note check for power with all the connectors plugged in. You can also jump the connections at the motor. Supply a ground to the brown wire and supply power to the dark blue wire and the window should go up.

Window problem


Might want to check the doors with the problem windows for a broken wire from the door to the door jam.

The window lock switch is a single circuit to all the other windows, so if there was a problem with it, none of the window controls would work ( but the driver's side would still operate them ).

The other place to check for a broken wire is the driver's side door to a-pillar harness. The circuits for the other windows run through the driver's side switch. Could be a wire in the driver's side door harness.

The other item could be the driver's side switch, the contacts will get carbon built up on them, and the windows will not operate anymore.
This is what mine looked like when the driver's side window stopped working ( lower left hand corner of the picture is the driver's side window switch, note the carbon build up on the contacts )

I would start with checking for broken wires, by metering the window switch for power.

The back passenger's window switch should be getting power & ground on the white w/ yellow stripe wire and the tan w/ light blue stripe wire.
in the "at rest" position on the driver's side switch, these are supplying ground to the power window, and power is being applied to the other side of the motor ( depending on direction of travel ).

Camry 1996 automatic power lock doen't work, but windows work.


if you can here relays when unlocking/locking check for power at door lock actuators inside doors, if you have power on lock/unlock and good earth from connector actuators are faulty.
if no power on test light when operating check output from central door lock module while operating, none coming out of module then it might need replacing.
check 30Amp power fuse for main relay under bonnet (which goes to pin 8 white/blue on module)and 10Amp gauge fuse in cab(pin 1 blue/red on module),pin 15 is also power when relay is on(red/blue) with test light, and module/ actuators.
check outputs from module pin 3 & 4
blue/red
blue/black
that go to door locks

2000 Chevy Cavalier Z24 Convertible- Had intermittent control of passenger window. Pulled up dual window switch assembly from center console, checked connector for tightness and now the driver's window...


I have the diagram, brown wire is hot in run or start.It's controlled by a 25Amp fuse as a circuit breaker.It's been my experience that a broken wire in the wiring harness between the door and body is the usual cause of "intermittent control"of power windows.The colors of the motor wires are Dark Blue and Brown (drivers door),Light Blue and Tan for right side.If you have voltage at the motor and it doesn't work it might need replacement.Especially if your dome lights dim when you try to operate the window switch.The switches are disposable and not very serviceable.There are some tabs you can pry up to get to the inside of the switch,Warning: the contacts just lay there on pivots and will fall out if your not carefull.If you do open your switch and see any thing that's black or burned the switch is finished,and need replacement.Sorry I can't be of any more help!
