1996 Honda Accord Stops Suddenly

Hi All, The car used to run very perfectly for the last six months but from past 2 days i am noticing that it stops suddenly anytime on the road which is a big headache for me and if i wait for couple of mins and start again then it starts. Could you all please help me in letting know what the problem would be.

First you need to isolate the problem whether it is fuel or ignition related. if there is no-spark when it quits then it's in the ignition, if there is no gas when it happens then it's in the fuel system.
if the ignition system then you have to check the coil and distributor ( the igniter in the distributor is known for cutting off and restart after it cool down ).
if the fuel system then you need to check the fuel pump relay and the fuel pump for defective.
good luck

exhaust? no! not in this case, you only need to concerntrate on the cutting problem now. ask your friends to find out a reputable garage and have them check why it quits like that. they can take your car and test drive or lets it run then when it quits they can check to see if it has fire or fuel. once they issolate the problem then they can pin point what cause it.

Try cleaning the throttle body with carburetor cleaner. It could have carbon buildup causing it to run rough. I hope this helps and a can of carb cleaner only cost less than $5.00.

sounds to me like idle air control valve or crank position sensor. but instead of buying parts and doing a trial and error. take it to a tuning specialist and have them do a diagnostic test on it. hope this helps and please leave a comment... thanks

if overheats, and trows water or steam, there you can think on the water pump or the thermostat, but you only have a signal problem, try replacing the tempeture sensor.

the engine requires a head skim and rebuild possibly a piston ring or 2 also it may work out cheaper to replace engine or if your handy with spanners and socket set and have a workshop manual to follow try some of the work yourself

The automatic door lock on my 96 Honda Accord makes a loud buzzing sound when locking. Is there anyway to fix it myself? How do I take off the door panel to

My 1996 Honda had the same thing on the driver side door.

It was caused by a deteriorated rubber stop inside the door lock actuator module. The module is buried down in the lower outside corner of the door. Inside the module there is a track on which two electrical contacts slide along with the actuator, and a small rubber bumper stop. When this stop deteriorates, the contacts over travel and run off the track. Evidently this confuses the actuator controller into oscillation. The control module limits the time this occurs, so the buzz stops after a short while. There is somewhat of a spring return action to the mechanism, so the contacts return to the track, making things good again.

The dealer couldn't get just the rubber part, so $130+ for the whole module. My make-shift o-ring replacement only lasted a few months.

Definitely a chore to get the module out and back in.

Normal operation of the charger because its just a tender. A fast charger would run much less in the same situation.

Honda Accord 2001 DX ( stops frequently).

It's sounds like the fuel filter is dirty! And the reason that it starts after a couple of min. is because the pressure of the fuel stops moving through the filter.Replace it. It's cheap and easy!
