What were the other readings
just having a high CO reading is not enough to diagnose

simple things are injector cleaning and better gas

SOURCE: HCL too high, did not pass smog check.

ok well this might be a hard one . from what i can gather by the co reading and the o2 reading is that we are running fat. a couple things can cearte this one how many miles do we have on this mtr, two do we have a vacuumn leak? three is the vech going into closed loop? some how we need to get are hands on a scanner so we can look at a data, other wise you are going to be throwing parts at this vech , and thats not the way to fix your problem. the odds are that you may have some lazy o2 sensors you are close. have you tryed running the vech down the road before you go in for the test. the converter is like a hot water heater you have to bring it to operating temp before it will operate correctly. keep me informed

as long as you have no check engine light on change oil, air filter. pep boys sells a product called guaranteed to pass add to fuel make sure car is hot when you go back for emission test cold car has high hc levels it also helps to post the hc level you tested at and the limit on your receipt hope this helps

High level emission output

Your not providing any Emission Gas Numbers

High Level of WHAT?

You got 5 Gases, what's high & what are the limits
you have to stay within

If you know all that, you can google exhaust gases & read
up on the reasons & solution & print the info & put in a binder,
if you do all your own work,if not, let a shop worry about it

Cant pass smog my hc levels are to high

High HC means there is unburned fuel going out the exhaust pipe.
The fuel mixture is too rich or the plugs are not firing properly.
A mechanic would check for a rich fuel mixture first.

About the only thing you can do is take it to a qualified DEQ specialist and have them take a look at it. It might be something as simple as a hose, or not.

My 88 buick limited wont pass smog hc is 169 at low idle changed map sensor and oil still wont pass but car runs fine.

Are you burning oil? Does this car still have a catalytic converter? Have you changed spark plugs or air filter recently. There are many causes for a high hydrocarbon reading: burning oil due to rings or valve stem seals; catalytic converter malfunctioning or missing; vehicle in need of a tuneup or air filter replacement. Poor combustion results in high hydrocarbon levels. Good luck with it.

High Emissions output

did you fail a smog test? if you did... i always pass smog because i always have a new catalytic converter installed .if i was a little over the test, this usually gets me down a little lower and that's passing!
