Remove steering column shroud 1991 f150to replace ignition switch

    Did that first but can't get at the switch that way it is below according to the manuals need to remove the shroud to get at it, but it doesn't tell one how to remove the shroud. But thank you anyway.

Not sure if I remember right or not, but I believe you remove the horn, steering wheel, etc., and get at it from the end, not by taking the shroud off. But not completely sure anymore.

Runs but only when applying pressure to the steering wheel


sound like loose wires to the ignition switch in the steering column. just remove steering column shroud and lower the steering column check the ignition switch wires.first disconnect negative battery cable before working on ignition switch. either switch wires loosen or switch could be bad.

Need to replace ignition cylinder. no keys


This is not an easy repair due to anit theft requirements. need to chisel off bolts.

Section 11-04: Steering Column 1997 Probe Workshop Manual REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION Procedure revision date: 05/17/2000
Ignition Switch Lock Cylinder Removal
  1. Remove the steering wheel (3600). Refer to the procedure in this section.
  1. Remove the four lower steering column shroud screws.

  1. Separate the upper and lower steering column shrouds.
  1. Remove the ignition switch lock cylinder illumination miniature bulb from the lower steering column shroud.
  1. Remove the upper and lower steering column shrouds.
  1. Remove the multi-function switch (13K359). Refer to Section 11-05 for the removal and installation procedure.
  1. If equipped, remove the ignition/shifter interlock cable screw.
  1. Disconnect the ignition/shifter interlock cable (3F719) from ignition switch lock cylinder (11582).
  1. Use a chisel to remove the two ignition switch lock cylinder bolts.
  1. Remove the ignition switch lock cylinder from the steering column.
  1. Disconnect the ignition key reminder switch electrical connector.
  1. If necessary, remove the ignition key reminder switch.

Installation
NOTE: Use new ignition switch lock cylinder bolts. Tighten the bolts until the bolt heads break off. Check for proper ignition switch (11572) operation.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.

SECTION 211-05: Steering Column Switches 1998 Expedition/Navigator Workshop Manual REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION Procedure revision date: 02/11/2000 Multifunction Switch Removal
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable (14301).
  1. Remove the ignition switch lock cylinder (11582).
    1. Insert the ignition key into the ignition switch lock cylinder and turn to the RUN position.
    1. Insert a punch through the hole in the lower steering column shroud and push the ignition switch lock cylinder release tab while pulling out the ignition switch lock cylinder.

  1. Twist the tilt wheel handle and shank (3F609) and remove.

  1. NOTE: Move gear selector to lowest position to access steering column opening cover.
    Release the four clips and remove the steering column opening cover.

Remove ignition switch for a 2004 kia optima


Ignition Switch Removal & Installation To Remove:
  1. Disconnect battery negative cable.
  2. Disarm air bag system.
  3. Remove driver air bag module.
  4. Loosen screw and lift horn pad to remove.
  5. Remove lock nut and washer. CAUTION
    Do not hammer on steering wheel. Damage can occur to the energy absorbing portion of the steering column.
  6. Pull dynamic damper forward and lift up to remove.
  7. Remove steering wheel.
  8. Remove steering column shrouds.
  9. Remove lower cover.
  10. Remove multifunction switch.
  11. Remove entire lower portion of dash.
  12. Remove mounting fasteners and lower steering column.
  13. Remove bolts and separate ignition switch from steering column.
To Install:
  1. Install ignition switch to steering column and install bolts.
  2. Raise steering column and install mounting fasteners.
  3. Install lower portion of dash.
  4. Install multifunction switch.
  5. Install lower cover.
  6. Install steering column shrouds.
  7. Install steering wheel.
  8. Install dynamic damper.
  9. Install washer and lock nut.
  10. Lift horn pad and install screw.
  11. Install driver air bag module.
  12. Connect battery negative cable.

How do i replace the ignition switch in my 94 couger


Removal & Installation
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the upper steering column shroud by removing the self-tapping screws.
  2. Unfasten the four bolts retaining the lower steering column shroud, then remove the shroud.
  3. Remove the lock screw, and detach the ignition switch electrical connector.
  4. Rotate the ignition switch lock cylinder to the RUN position.
  5. Remove the two screws retaining the ignition switch, and disengage the ignition switch from the actuator.
To install:

NOTE A new replacement switch will be set in the RUN position as received.

  1. Adjust the ignition switch by sliding the carrier to the ignition switch run position.
  2. Check to make sure the ignition switch lock cylinder is in the RUN position. The RUN position is achieved by rotating the ignition switch lock approximately 90 degrees from the LOCK position.
  3. Install the ignition switch assembly into the column actuator hole. It may be necessary to move the ignition switch slightly back and forth to align the ignition switch mounting holes with the lock cylinder housing threaded holes.
  4. Install the retaining screws and tighten to 53–71 inch lbs. (6–8 Nm).
  5. Attach the electrical connector to the ignition switch. Tighten the lock screw to 7–11.5 inch lbs. (0.8–1.3 Nm).
  6. Connect the negative battery cable. Check the ignition switch for proper function, including the START and ACC positions. Also, make sure the column is in the LOCK position.
  7. Install the upper and lower steering column steering shrouds.

How to remove key unit from steering column 1986 F150 Ford

With Key
  1. Disconnect the battery ground.
  2. On tilt columns, remove the upper extension shroud by unsnapping the shroud from the retaining clip at the 9 o'clock position.
  3. Remove the trim shroud halves.
  4. Unplug the wire connector at the key warning switch.
  5. Place the shift lever in PARK and turn the key to ON.
  6. Place a 1/8 in. wire pin in the hole in the casting surrounding the lock cylinder and depress the retaining pin while pulling out on the cylinder.
  7. When installing the cylinder, turn the lock cylinder to the RUN position and depress the retaining pin, then insert the lock cylinder into its housing in the flange casting. Assure that the cylinder is fully seated and aligned in the interlocking washer before turning the key to the OFF position. This will allow the cylinder retaining pin to extend into the cylinder cast housing hole.
  8. The remainder of installation is the reverse of removal.

This section is for a NON-TILT with no key or non-functioning cylinder:
Fixed Columns
  1. Disconnect the battery ground.
  2. Remove the steering wheel.
  3. Remove the turn signal lever.
  4. Remove the column trim shrouds.
  5. Unbolt the steering column and lower it carefully.
  6. Remove the ignition switch and warning buzzer and pin the switch in the LOCK position.
  7. Remove the turn signal switch.
  8. Remove the snapring and T-bolt nuts that retain the flange casting to the column outer tube.
  9. Remove the flange casting, upper shaft bearing, lock cylinder, ignition switch actuator and the actuator rod by pulling the entire assembly over the end of the steering column shaft.
  10. Remove the lock actuator insert, the T-bolts and the automatic transmission indicator insert, or, with manual transmissions, the key release lever.
  11. Upon reassembly, the following parts must be replaced with new parts:
    • Flange
    • Lock cylinder assembly
    • Steering column lock gear
    • Steering column lock bearing
    • Steering column upper bearing retainer
    • Lock actuator assembly
  1. Assembly is a reversal of the disassembly procedure. It is best to install a new upper bearing. Check that the vehicle starts only in PARK and NEUTRAL.

This section is for TILT and no key or non-functioning cylinder:

Tilt Columns
  1. Disconnect the battery ground.
  2. Remove the steering column shrouds.
  3. Using masking tape, tape the gap between the steering wheel hub and the cover casting. Cover the entire circumference of the casting. Cover the seat and floor area with a drop-cloth.
  4. Pull out the hazard switch and tape it in a downward position.
  5. The lock cylinder retaining pin is located on the outside of the steering column cover casting adjacent to the hazard flasher button.
  6. Tilt the steering column to the full up position and prepunch the lock cylinder retaining pin with a sharp punch.
  7. Using a 1/8 in. drill bit, mounted in a right angle drive drill adapter, drill out the retaining pin, going no deeper than 1/2 in. (12.7mm).
  8. Tilt the column to the full down position. Place a chisel at the base of the ignition lock cylinder cap and using a hammer break away the cap from the lock cylinder.
  9. Using a 3/8 in. drill bit, drill down the center of the ignition lock cylinder key slot about 13/4 in. (44mm), until the lock cylinder breaks loose from the steering column cover casting.
  10. Remove the lock cylinder and the drill shavings.
  11. Remove the steering wheel.
  12. Remove the turn signal lever.
  13. Remove the turn signal switch attaching screws.
  14. Remove the key buzzer attaching screw.
  15. Remove the turn signal switch up and over the end of the column, but don't disconnect the wiring.
  16. Remove the 4 attaching screws from the cover casting and lift the casting over the end of the steering shaft, allowing the turn signal switch to pass through the casting. The removal of the casting cover will expose the upper actuator. Remove the upper actuator.
  17. Remove the drive gear, snapring and washer from the cover casting along with the upper actuator.
  18. Clean all components and replace any that appear damaged or worn.
  19. Installation is the reverse of removal. Check for proper operation.

How hard is it to change the Ignition Key Lock Cylinder? Do I need to take off the Steering wheel or does the guts just come out from the Steering Col with a pin, or something?

2000 F150 gear shift knob no longer shifts gears


Good day
No the steering wheel don't need to be remove.
1. remove the instrument panel cluster opening finish panel assembly. remove the 3 screws that retains the upper steering column shroud and remove cover.
2. insert a scratch awl into the access hole on lower steering column shroud and push in the ignition lock cylinder release pin. insert the ignition key into the lock, turn ignition to run position and remove the lock cylinder from the steering column. remove lower steering column shroud. unsnap and slide gearshift lever boot up toward end of gearshift lever.

NOTE: ALWAYS INSTALL NEW GEARSHIFT LEVER RETAINING PIN DURING REASSEMBLY

3. remove gearshift lever retaining pin by lightly tapping with a drift punch and hammer. disconnect gearshift lever harness connector. remove gearshift lever. to install reverse removal procedure.
