P0700 - Transaxle Control System Fault Conditions
The P0700 code is for information only and the next step is to check for transaxle codes in the Transaxle Control Module (TCM). So you'll have to have the dealer or another qualified shop/technician pull the transaxle codes from the TCM and go from there.

P0740 - Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Malfunction

P0601 - Internal Control Module Memory Check Sum Error
What does that mean?
Basically that means that there is an interal fault in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). There have been many reported PCM failures on Chrysler/Dodge products although it is possible for this to happen on any vehicle. In Dodge/Chrysler products, a P0601 trouble code means that a serial communication failed inside the computer at least 6 times.

Symptoms
Likely, no symptoms will be discernible to the driver, other than the illuminated Check Engine Light. Typically the engine runs fine, gauges work, etc.

Causes
A code P0601 in most cases means the PCM has gone bad. This is possibly due to a short-circuit inside the PCM. Or, if you disconnect the wires/connector from the PCM while the battery is still connected, that may also cause this code.

Possible Solutions
With a P0601 OBD-II trouble code, the most common fix is to replace and reprogram the PCM. In a few cases the dealer may be able to reflash the PCM and get it working. But more than likely the PCM will need to be replaced and reprogrammed (we recommend you take it to a dealership for this). The good news is it *may* be covered under your emmissions warranty. So even if you're out of bumper-to-bumper warranty or powertrain warranty, check your warranty guide or dealer to see if this is covered.

Other people have reported that they cleared the code only for it to return again and again. Keep in mind that most shops can replace the PCM but not all can program it.

Good luck!

P0700 Transmission Control System Malfunction OBD-II Trouble Code Technical Description Article by Dale Toalston ASE Certified Technician Transmission Control System TCS Malfunction What does that mean? Many vehicles have a control module for the automatic transmission called a transmission control module (TCM). The engine control module (ECM) communicates with the TCM to monitor the automatic transmission for faults. If the TCM detects a fault in the automatic transmission and sets a transmission related fault code, the ECM is informed of this also and sets a P0700 in the ECM memory. This illuminates the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) to let the driver know there is a problem. If this code is present and the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) is illuminated that basically means there is at least one transmission code set in the TCM's memory. P0700 is an informational code only. It doesn't point to a direct fault in the engine, only a general fault in the transmission. More diagnosis is necessary to identify what the transmission fault is. This requires a scan tool that will communicate with the transmission module. Symptoms Symptoms of a P0700 DTC may include: Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illumination The transmission may exhibit drivability problems like slipping, etc. Causes More often then not, the cause of this code is that there is a transmission problem of some kind. The TCM detected the problem and set a code. P0700 means that a fault code is stored in the TCM. However this doesn't rule out the possibility of a failed PCM or TCM (unlikely). Possible Solutions For a P0700 the only real solution is to acquire a scan tool that will communicate with the transmission control module. Extracting this code from the TCM will be the first step in repairing the fault in the transmission. If the TCM compatible scan tool will not communicate with the Transmission Control Module then that is a good indication that there may be a fault with the TCM itself. I am getting P0700 and P740 what do they mean? P0740 states that TCC Circuit Malfunctioning, what does that mean? I took my car to a repair shop and was told that it would cost me $1400 to fix it. I would...

P0700 is an information code from the transmission controller to the engine controller(computer) it says "hey I'm having trouble making the trans do what I want it to!" P0740 is a trans code saying that the TorqueConvertorControl system isn't working. Could be the solenoid pack, valve body or the torque converter itself. I would recommend to leave this for a pro! $1400 is a fair price.

I have a 06 dodge dakota with 3.7L V6 engine. have troublecodes P0218, P0700, P0740, & P1775 showing on the diagonistic tool. what do i need to do to fix the codes listed?

All four codes involve the transmission.
Code 218 was for high trans fluid temp.
Code 700 was for a problem with the trans control circuits.
Code 740 involved the torque converter.
And code 1775 may have been for the malfunction indicator lamp.
Sounds like the transmission overheated for some reason, which could have cooked the fluid.

Error #P0740 & P0700 need help with fixs and price

Both codes are for transaxle problems.
Code 740 is the torque converter and code 700 is a general fault with the controller.
You'll need to take it to a shop that works on transmissions.

My 2002 pt cruiser check engine light came on today i took it to auto zone they hooked up a computer and it came back with 2 codes wrong a p0700 and a p0740 what does this mean and is it expensive to fix

P0700 simply means there is a fault code present in the transmission module (TCM). P0740 Torque converter clutch circuit. This is usually caused by a worn out torque converter clutch which would involve replacing the torque converter and yes it would be expensive to repair if that is the cause. Diagnosis is usually made with a scanner and other equipment.
