If the clutch is not adjustable, then the release springs on the pressure plate are worn and you will need to replace the whole clutch assembly.

The clutchpedal seems to work but does not engage and the fluid level reamains full


It is still a bit unclear what is going on here, when you say it seems to work, do you mean the clutch disengages? Can you change gears OK with the engine running and the clutch depressed?

When you say it does not engage the plate, do you mean the vehicle does not move? To change gears it must DISengage the plate, not the other way round.

Sorry if I seem picky, but I'm trying to get it all straight. If you can change gears OK with the engine running and the clutch depressed, but the vehicle does not move when you let the clutch pedal up, then the clutch is possibly worn out and needs replacing.

If the opposite and you cannot get it into gear with the clutch depressed, then the clutch throwout fork has possibly broken, which is not uncommon. Alternatively but less likely is that there is so much air in the clutch hydraulic line that it has become ineffective.

The fork on my clutch snapped and it along with the release bearing were replaced. Clutch was very hard and pedal vibrated when touched. Gears were difficult to select as well


Hi,its always best to replace the hole of the clutch kit,as the presher plate is proberly damaged as well,all the best.

sounds like your release bearing has either collapsed or seized, either way you will have to drop the gear box and check it out... should'nt be a problem on a 1999 fiesta. just be careful not to pop a drive shaft and lose the transmission fluic on the floor.

Hard to shift into first gear


Tighten clutch cable until the car would start to move when the clutch peddle is 50% depressed, Before you do that, with the clutch fully depressed and in 2nd gear, start the car and slowly let off the clutch. You may find that the clutch has to be released virtually all the way before the car moves. It should be at about that 50% I spoke about

i would say clutch, if you trun off car and depress clutch and it goes through the gears ok then its the clutch, first thing is than fluid is full in clutch master cylinder,good luck.

Can t shift gears


loosen the bleed screw.Then check if you can press the pedal down.If you can you have to change the clutch Assembly.If you still find it hard to depress then the master cylinder needs to be replaced.Hope this was useful.

2nd gear clutching


STOP Downshifting!
STOP Forcing gear change, watch the Engine RPMs and shift accordingly, HOMBRE's are as good as the operator's. Hombre's have dash shift indicators which illuminate when it's time to 'shift' and not before, This has nothing to do with gear oil either. If you've drained it, you best fill it immediately and make sure it's ample level. The heat these gears sustain in is inceredible, cooling lubricant is essential. Here's a tip, while engine is OFF, ignition key is engaged, dash is illuminated, depress clutch peddle, keep it depressed and walk through all gears with gear shift, shifting should be smooth and unpeded, including reverse. If resistance is experienced at one or more gears, gear alignment is off as a result of inproper gear shifting while driving. Continue to drive vehicle just shift slower until clutch needs replacement then do an entire drive shaft upgrade. It worth it, it's great truck.
