On the 8 cylinder motors, the gaskets between the waterpump and block fail quite often. if you find it's the problem, get the new up-dated gaskets from a GM dealer- they are the only one's that have a decent replacement- costs less then aftermarket too!
FIRST CHECK FOR LEAKS ON BLOCK THEN HOSES OR RADIATOR. THEN IF NOTHING FOUND RUN VEHICLE TO OPERATING TENP WATCH FOR EXCESS WATER OR MOISTER OUT TAIL PIPE.IF NOTHING FOUND CHECK THERMOSTAT,CHECK FOR FLOW IN RADIATOR
I would say you have a leak, either the oil pan plug or the valve seals or the rings, the rocker cover gaskets could be leaking, they usually leak out the rear and soak the header pipe, does it smoke under the hood when you start it? Does it leave a puddle on the ground? How about blue smoke when it is stepped on? A compression check will tell you about the rings. If you park in the dirt or someplace where you can't see a puddle, put a piece of cardboard under there.Check it out.
Usually a smell of antifreeze in the cab when the heater is running is a sign the heater core is leaking. Just becasue you dont see a leak at this time doesn't mean there isn't one. It might small enough that the haet from the core is burning off the leaking antifreeze. I would suggest replacing the core before you get in one day and there is a puddle on your floorboard. Or if you go to a local parts store and rent a cooling system pressure tester, wait until the vehicle is cold, pressure the system to 12 lbs and then check for leaks. Hope this helps you out......
3.4 are know to have this problem. It is the intake gaskets leaking. Will cost about 400 to 700 depending on who does the work. Dont take to dealer unless under warrt....Chevy knows but will not fix
loosing this much it is leaving puddles under it? possible causes would be water pump. hoses, intake gasket. what area do you see a puddle? check oil and see if it is milky
