The key turns and eventually rolls over. It takes longer to start when it is hot. I sat there one day for 30 minutes trying to start it. It acts like it has a bad connection and starts when it feels like it.

Your question is not complete, The start key does it turn around 360 degrees? if so the ignition switch needs to be replaced, also if it's hard to start when hot, that depends or alot of variables, fuel type, clean air filter, If you say it starts when it feels like doing so, the vehicle doesn't know.Sounds like a bad connection in the ignition switch, also check and clean your ground cable on the battery . The problems are easy to fix and should not cost more that 75.00 the ignition switch is the costly part

It may be because the engine is not getting all the fuel it needs when the tank is low due to a faulty fuel pump or fuel injectors. More diagnostic tools for car @http://www.obd2express.co.uk

I don't have the door key to my 1997 Nissan Maxima and my remotes are no longer working at all, how can I bypass the alarm going off so I can drive the car? The anti theft system won't allow it to start

after the alarm stops going off... do not touch anything... wait 10 minutes or longer... if you are in the car with the doors closed, and the alarm has run through it's cycle and is no longer sounding, do not touch the locks or open the door you will set off the alarm again each time you do this.... attempt to start the vehicle, it will probably just turn on but wont crank or start. this is the immobilizer. It thinks you are tying to steal the car. Since the 97 does not have a key with a chip in it, it will eventually start. However, only after I waited almost 20 minutes without touching anything except to put the key in the ignition and try to start the car withdrawing the key completely each time. This has only happened to me twice because I just don't lock the car anymore. I keep nothing of value in it ever. Each time I got the car to start after waiting and apparently it will start after some time if you push to roll down the driver side window... Haven't been able to find any other mention of this on the internet, somehow this was the trick to getting the car to start again after my remote quit working, and like you i only have a worn down ignition key. It worked for me with all doors except for the drivers side closed. I just kept trying to insert the key and start it, while rolling the drivers side window up and down. Eventually it started after like 30 minutes and after one press to roll down the drivers side window.

1999 Isuzu Amigo V6 2wd: Car doesn't start always. Turn the key, lights come on, radio on, etc, but no clicking noise, no engine trying to turn over, absolutely nothing. I put in a new battery, but same...

When I have such a problem with my Toyota pickup, I install a button in dash to crank the motor over. Hot wire from the switch on to the button, then from the button to the starter activating wire. My Toy doesn't do this every time, but when it won't crank I just reach down and flip the spring center switch, same as a button, and she cranks and fires up. This is easier than replacing a bunch of stuff that may not be bad or is impossible to get to.

Try putting new plugs and wires in. Just because the coils are good doesn't mean you are getting spark. If you know you have fuel then I would put new plugs in.

Won't start. When turning key to engage starter, nothing happens. If I move the shift lever around, eventually, starter will engage, but it seems to take longer lately.

could be loose connection or battery shot, visit halfords or motor world and they will check battery free usaully, if you can see the starter motor hit it with a hammer whilst someone turns the key be careful it will send sparks everywhere! safe but not wise will make it start if you get dtuck somewhere though m8.
if the battery is fine then it might be worth getting the wiring checked it could be starter solinoid

I have a 1996 Olds Aurora...it turns over, but takes longer then normal to start. It's like it doesn't catch right away. If it was the starter or starter relay connecters then it wouldn't turn over at all....

maybe the fuel pressure regulator bleeding down while parked. Take a fuel pressure tester and hook it up, cycle key to gain optimal fuel pressure, turn key off and monitor fuel pressure. It should hold at around 20 psi.

Heater takes forever to start blowing hot air

You probably have a bad thermostat - the one that controls water flow to the radiator. It's supposed to stay closed until the engine reaches proper operating temperature. But when they fail, it's usually in the open position so the water circulate to the radiator all the time. The engine takes longer to warm up, and you shiver in the meantime. It does eventually get hot - it just takes a lot longer. I bet if you replace that thermostat you'll be toasty in no time. As for the cigarette lighter, your portable heater may have blown the fuse.
