The thermostat is at the back of the engine, the upper radiator hose is connected to the thermostat housing, there are 3 10mm bolts holding it on. I'd check for maybe a missed bolt on the water pump, I know there is alot of bolts holding it on.

My 2002 Volkswagen GTI has been overheating. It almost hit 290 every time. But it only does that when im driving. Theres also steam coming from the bottom of the reserve. I notice my auxiliary pump is...

the lose of pressure is causing the overheating, VW and most other German cars, require that the cooling system be sealed to hold the pressure in order to maintain the right temperature. The leak in what I am guessing is the water pump is causing the system to lose pressure therefore it is going to gain heat. In other words repair the leak and you will fix the overheating issue.

Im having an overheating problem with a 2000 Chevy Caviler...2.2 engine. The coolant is dumping out of the resevoir overflow. I thought it was the thermostat, so I changed it yesterday. The problem is...

Change the cap for the overflow tank. The seal has gone bad and can no longer hold pressure, therefore it has no where to go but leak from the overflow. New cap $10. This should fix the problem.

there are three hoses leading to the water pump. the biggest one oviously goes to the thermostat housing, but the other two are much smaller 1 inch hoses, one of wich goes on the water pump and the other on the thermostat housing. if you follow the hoses one will connect to the upper part of the overflow for the radiator after hitting a T in the lines, that hose connects to the thermostat housing, and the other goes to the water pump its self.
