Question about 2000 Mitsubishi Galant

1 Answer

2000 Mitsubishi Galant ES Starter Problems: Battery checks out fine. Electrical systems working. No blown fuses. Cables and plugs seated properly. Fluids all at proper levels. Car will not jump. Will only click once when the ignition is engaged. Will not turn over / crank. I let the vehicle sit in the shade for 45 mins to an hour waiting for the tow, and lo and behold, the vehicle started right up once the tow arrived. The starter is positioned right next to the exhaust near the front right tire. I am thinking that lots of stop-and-go driving, hot weather, and my wife's lead foot are heating up the starter via the exhaust system and therein causing the problem. I have already replaced the starter twice in this vehicle. Prior to the vehicle being DOA yesterday, it would hesitate when attempting to crank. Also, when attempting to start and it would not turn over, a faint burnt electrical smell could be detected coming through the AC vents. Anyone have any ideas?

I think the electric smell is from the wires getting hot, from the cranking amps delivered by the battery. When your car does'nt start it's normal for you to try, and try again, over and over to start the car . . . making the wires heat up with all that juice.

My 2000 Mitsubishi Galant won't turn over it clicks and electrical works..... But I just won't start all the way up can someone help??

The electrical will work because most electrical needs only about about 8 volts to operate...and not too much current. Starting, on the other hand, needs almost full voltage (12.8V) and a lot of current. If you are in cold weather, the battery's load potential is already reduced due to the cold. If the battery is more than three years old, then I would suspect the battery as being unable to provide the current necessary to engage the starter, The click you hear is from the starter solenoid engaging, but the starter motor needs much more power to be able to turn the engine over. If you are sure that the battery is good, then the starter is the next possible culprit. Do a battery cable check to ensure that the cables are securely fastened to the battery and are not loose or corroded...this can cause poor electrical connection as well.

2003 mitsubishi galant es put in drive engine fuse blow only in drive

Well this is obviously an electrical gremlin, which I have had to deal with before. has anyone recently done any work on the cars electrical system...this would include a new radio/speaker system? If not you need to trace out the electrical wiring going to and from the transmission. Check for pinched wires, chafed wires and loose contact points including grounding studs and any electrical connectors that may have got moisture/water in them. Another thing is to make sure the proper fuses with proper ratings are installed also. Hope this helps!

2000 Mitsubishi Galant ES 2.4 liter, the electrical issue is that the battery seems to lose power and trips out the radio and will not start and have to put in radio code all the time and fuses seem to...

How old is the battery? More than 3 years it may be failing. Summer heat will test the battery limits.
Could be the alternator / regulator is bad causing large spikes in the voltage.
Take to an Auto Zone or other auto parts store and ask them to test the battery and alternator.
good luck

Mitsubishi galant 2002 - Will not start, even with jumper cables. When turned on just hear one click noise, never had any problems till today. Hook up a newer battery and same problem, cleaned the battery...

Check the starter. The clicking is caused by the starter solenoid engaging, but the starter not turning over. This will more than likely need to be replaced.

Yes, seems that you might have a few fuses that are blown out. There are two places for the fuses, one is under the bonnet, and one is inside the car, under the steering wheel. Both have a diagram either close to them, or in the dashboard fuses, usually the cover has the diagram on the back. This way you will know which ones to check. If you can't find the diagram you might need a "test light" to see which ones are not working. If a fuse is blown, you will see that the wire inside the plastic in between the pins is broken. Also, on the back side of the fuse you will see the amperage value. A fuse must be replaced with the exact same amperage value fuse.
