Question about 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

1 Answer

I have a 1992 Silverado 350. I have replaced the plugs, wires, distruter cap, and rotor. I believe I have valves that are sticking. It will run righjt for a few miles then drops down like it is running on 6 cyc. How do I check and repair sticking valves? THe 1990 was the closest I could find from your drop down list. If your valves are sticking you may have left the mower out in the weather. A worn valve guide will also make it stick. By taking the head off and the small cover on the side of the engine where you see the breather hose come out you can take the valve out and clean them on a wire wheel. When I put them back in I use a little STP on the valve stem. Wal_Mart sells a small engine repair manual. I don't know how good it is, but it should help you. You can try to library too for a manual.

1995 Silverado 1500 350 tbi; Engine started missing badly about two weeks ago. Low on power. Checked the following and all good; compression, plugs, dist cap and rotor

How did you inspect your parts. Sometimes a part might look ok when actually it is bad. When was the last time you replaced your Fuel filter? I would perform a fuel pressure test. You may have a weak fuel pump. You don't list checking your plug wires. You may have some bad plug wires. Also remove your rotor and look in the distributor. There is a part located under where the rotor goes that is a ceramic type of material. I can't remember what they call it but inspect it for cracking. Is is a fairly common thing. If you see cracking you will need to replace the distrubutor shaft which is not a big deal or you can buy a remanned distributor if you don't want to mess with it. Also you may have an EGR valve that is sticking open which could cause your symptoms.

if you have the v6 model did you replace the distributor and rotor cap and what is the temp reading in your car if it isnt @ 200 degrees i would look at replacing your temp sensor located by the brake resivor follow down it should be between ther last two spark plugs should have a plug going to it and it is brass you should also look to clean your throttle body if it is dirty could cause the butterfly valve to stick . you also have a pcv valve on this truck. let me know if this helps

Where is the rotore /cap located in a 1999 silverado 4.8

I believe those motors have a distributorless ignition system. Each cylinder has a coil mounted on top of the valve cover.
