Question about 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee
There should be a 12 volt wire at the compreser pump that engages the electric clutch, using a test light see if there is power there when AC is turned on. If you do not have power there check for fuses, if there is power there its low on AC gas.

Probably low or out of freon. Please see your professional service center for repair of the leak and installation of replacement coolant.
