In the windshield area on the drivers side is the Vin or Vehicle Identification Number - take this down and drive to the local dealer - go in to the parts place. Tell them you need the fuse and - - an diagram showing how and where to self install. They will give you the EXACT printout for your personal car.
Also while there ask about the RECALL situation as well. You should also ask about Service Bulletins. While the factory only fixes the RECALLS free the Service bulletins will give you advance notice of potential problems that are again car owner specific.

The fuse box fascia 2 is placed on the passenger's side inside glove box compartment, for Left Hand Drive (LHD) vehicles. From left to right direction:
Nr.1 fuse - F1 (30A - green colour) = Windscreen wiper relay
Replace blowed fuse and that's all.

I've checked the fuse box, and f40 is a 5A fuse which does not appear to be blown. This car is a right hand driveUK verfsion and the only diagram I have for a 525i shows the fuse 40 is the air bag.
I really wouldn't like to remove the airba fuse by mistake.

You need to take off the scuttle pan which is located just under the windscreen I know on the newer model this is held on with a few torque bolts and 10mm bolts this will give you access to the wiper motor and the wiper arms and hopefully give you the answer to your problem
I hope this helps

I would assume that you have a check engine light on and you probably have a misfire. Go to your local parts store(autozone, o'reilly's, etc.), they do scanning for free. Get the codes and let me know and I will continue to help.

2003 E39 525d Blower not working

The most common issue is the final stage (electronic resistor) but if this has been replaced its probably the fan motor. Try giving the fan motor a knock. They sometimes get stuck brushes

Front windscreen wipers have stopped working

Firstly check the fuses, if they are ok and you can here noise it will most likely be the linkage has popped apart, if no noise when on then check the switch.

*If you had cold weather when this happened, it is common for the motor to strain and blow the fuse*

Could a problem with the ignition switch on my 1996 E39 528i stop the windscreen washers working

doubt it, a faulty ignition sw would affect a whole slew of "on" circuits it wouldn't funnel down to just the winshield washers.

a faulty relay would though. loose fuse contacts also

I have a bmw 523i se and the windscreen wipers wont work have tried changing the fuse in the glove compartment but still wont work

it's normal, windshield wipers in bmws are connected to the speedometer since the old E36 3series, so they stop whenever you stop your car. If they start again once the car moves there's nothing wrong with your car!
