Question about 1999 Pontiac Bonneville

1 Answer

My bonneville did not want to get in gear this morning. it would NOT go in revese, ever. I had to push it out of the parking space. and eventually, it went forward, after some revving of the gas petal. drove pretty good once it started going, but it felt likw there was some... tension, when pressing on the gas petal. this has never happened before. ?

You may have more than one problem going on as far as the trans goes it maybe the trans filter or the filter seal is leaking air as far as the binding that may just be a dirty throttle body just remove the air intake snorkel and open the throttle plate with engine off and look at the throttle blade if its coked up clean with carb cleaner hope this helps thunderboltz

i dont know of any websites that will have that picture you need but all you have to do is look at the transmission on the left side of the car when your sitting behind the steering wheel under neith the car and you will see a flat pan about 2 inches deep and it will have a bunch of bolts around it what you need to do is remove that pan and when you buy a trans filter youll see how it goes in also if your not confident doeing this call a shop and ask how much they would charge usally not more than 75.00 with the filter and about 5.0 quarts of trans fluid if your not sure i woudnt want you to try this and risk the car falling on you the best way is a set of ramps to drive up far as the trhrottle cleaning have some one push the gas pedal with the engine off and look for the throttle moving that should get you to the throttle blade cleaning sorry kinda technical most people on this site work on there own stuff so not sure how to say things to different people.

2003 Focus zx5 with a 5 speed manual. Yesterday after driving about 50 miles it became more and more difficult to push into all gears but would go if forced. Clutch worked and could drive it but could hear...

The transmission has synchronisers to help line up the gears when you shift from one gear to another. If this transmission has been treated rough or rawhided and speed shifted, these synchroniser clips become bent and turn up and won't allow the synchroniser to slid over them into place and hold the transmission in gear. Eventually you will have to replace them. You will notice if you take it easy when shifting, it will get easier. Don't get in a hurry and jam the shifter or it will just get worse and they will have to be replaced. I hope you better understand how your shifter work. I hope you can buy some time before you have to put a fair amount of money it to it.
Good Luck.

Automatic 1996 Pontiac Bonneville wont shift gears

Transmissions have so many parts so it's difficult to diagnose. I would have the transmission filter changed first. Usually that is the most common shifting problem. If that doesn't fix the problem it may be a little more costly.

Can not get out of park

It sounds like torque lock. Either push the car forward or backwards to get the gears moving.

I am not with the car at the moment. But this morning I try to put my car in reverse and it will not move out of park. This is not the first time but usually it will eventually move.

It sounds like the car has a safety system that won't allow it to come out of park unless the brake is pushed down. Sometimes those switches break and have to be replaced.Hope this helps, James Booth

Tranny problem

It won't move in any gear postion? And it rolls in park? Does the speedometer go up when you try to drive it? First check the cv shafts to make sure they aren't broke.
