Question about 2000 Jeep Cherokee

1 Answer

Last month my immobiliser started playing up: When I'd turn the key in the ignition the 'immobiliser lamp' stayed on and I was unable to start the car. I've owned this car since 2003 and this had never happened before.(NOTE: the lamp was not flashing as it does when the wrong key is used). After I turned the key back and on again the light went off again and I was able to start. Hmmm...I adapted to that but then one night my trick wouldn't work and i was stuck, unable to start my car. Only after disconnecting the battery and 'resetting' the computer could I drive to the nearest Jeep repair shop. There some part was repalced and they got me a new key, all for $750 (that's Aussie dollars). Driving off the premises of the repair shop all looked fine. The following week the problem reocurred as if nothing had ever been repaired. Going back to the Jeep shop they told me that I 'probably' needed to have the "PCM" replaced which would cost me about $2500. I had a feeling they were a little bit clueless and were happy to keep doctoring on my car until they have learnt something new about Jeeps. It seems to me the first repair might not have been necessary but the mechanic insisted it was. In terms of results it is as if nothing was repaired. I'd be very grateful for any ideas/shared experiences with this sort of problem? Thank you!

Have you got remotes for this car, as im not all together on Aussie jeep specs,if you have, try resetting the immobiliser/alarm system,(remotes have 2 codes,1 fixed,1 rolling, every time you unlock the car with the remote the rolling code changes,so when the key is inserted it is only partly reccognised.....hope this helps.

BUTTON FOR IMMOBILISER BROCKEN OFF TOYOTA COROLLA 96 UNABLE TO START THE CAR...

the probably only real answer here is to purchase a new fob key and take the car and the key to a dealer service centre and have them both programme together.. Won't be cheap but at least the car immobiliser will then work with the key
Find yourself another mechanic.

Will not start

if the immobiliser unable to sync with key or card, the ECU will cut out the power to stop the engine. Check if you have the immobiliser indicator turn on.

Computer shut down fuel system reset

Hi, Sounds like the immobiliser isn't de-activating. The system will prime when the ignition is turned on and the car will start but then the immobiliser will cut the fuel after 2-3 seconds. Are there any warning lights or led lights staying on. If you have a spare key and haven't tried it then start there first. If you do and neither key works then it could be a number of things including the pick up ring around the ignition barrel but you would need to get the car checked out proffesionally before you start replacing parts. Good luck, Jon.

I need a 1998 mazda 323 ba immobiliser bypass key or another solution to start my car. Can anyone help me?

I know this question is old but I recently encountered a similar problem with my 1995 323 BA and this may help someone else. Override the immobilizer by doing the following:

open the car via the drivers door
put the key in the ignition
turn the key to ACC
now turn the key to ON
repeat the last 2 steps X 12 quickly (ignore the indicators flashing and the central locking activating).
the dashboard should be lighting up as normal.
Now turn the key to START

Wont start

Hi
Had a similar problem with my x type 2.5 petrol, only had the car 1 day went to start it nothing happend all the lights came up on the dash but the engine wouldn't start and the immobiliser light stayed on. Spoke to Jaguar they had no idea and I couldn't get it to them. After disconnecting the battery trying to reset the immobiliser phoned and auto locksmith they came out and discovered the end of the key with the blade had lost it's coding and the immobiliser was not disarming, they reprogrammed the key and the car started no problem. As far as i know there is no way past the immobiliser. Hope this helps.
