The bolts that hold everything in once out is very easy to replace. It islike removing a big turkey from the ovenwith the up most care.. The only trick is to remov the screw inside the pin holding the side gears in place which is inside the carrier housing

Front axle differential on my 2000 sierra 1500 4 wheel drive isleaking-should I replace the whole unit?

I would just replace the gasket and put new gear grease in it . If trouble shifting it could be transfer case. check fluid in it too.

How to install a new rear axle in a 02 gmc sierra 1500

Jack it up ,pull the wheel on the bad axle side, remove the diff. cover,
remove the small pin holding the large pin in,slide the big pin out ,push the axle in from the wheel end, remove the c-clip in the axle and slide it out.
Would be wise to change the seal at the end af the axle tube at the same time. Slide the new axle in ,put the c-clip in the axle ,push it back in the carrier and reinstall the large pin and keeper pin,"Right Stuff" sealer makes a good cover gasket,3/8 drive for the fill plug, some gear iol and you're done,,not a bad job,no special tools required.

How do you assemble spider gears in differential in a 1999 gmc seirra half ton?

What is the problem?

The side gears can only go one place,
they have the axle splines

The spider gears get retained by the pin

Drop them in & rotate the side gears

Spider gear grinding gone in differential. should all parts be replaced including axles? Happened on highway a high speed.

If the splines on the axles are damaged I would recommend changing them. Another alternative is to change the complete rear end , used from a wrecking yard.

Hi, without driving it to experince the noise first hand i would tend to say its the rear diff. Other causes can be a broken engine or transmission mount. Good luck

How do you remove c clips on rear axle on 2003 yukon 2 wheel drive rear end

You will need to support the vehilce on Jackstands, remover the rear wheels, remove the differential cover. You will see a pin retaining the spider gears in the diff, this pin is held in place with a bolt. Carefully remove this bolt, you may need to spin the carrier to access it, once the bolt is removed (should be an 8mm) you can slide the pin out, and push in on the axles ( you may need to disassemble the brakes to do this) and the c-clips can be removed, and the axles can be pulled from the truck.
