I found a small crack in my intake manifold. Could this be what is making my car idle up and down between 1000rpms and 1300rpms?

Yes that will do that for it is sucking air in through that crack

You can check to make sure of this if wanted by appling a form of putty over the crack to see if the idle stablize back to normal

What can cause water to enter valve on 2003 buick century.

The manifold gasket failure was likely where the water went astray. Did any get down into the crankcase? You need to flush it all out. At some point, you will want to crank the engine over with all spark plugs removed to see if any more water spits out. I don't understand what manifold cover you mean had the cracks. If it is the manifold itself, you probably need another manifold, especially if it is a sealing surface. The lower intake manifold gasket is a common failure on GM V6's of these years. Good thing you caught it in time before it ruined the engine.

Over reving

Can be a number of things (check all of these):

  1. Stuck throttle linkage or accelerator pedal;
  2. Loose butterfly on throttle body;
  3. Stuck or malfunctioning idle air controller;
  4. Loose or damaged throttle body or bad throttle body gasket;
  5. Cracked intake manifold or bad intake manifold gasket;
  6. Bad ignition control module.

Chugging noise

go to the wreckers that specialise in your make of car and get a second hand one. The intake manifold can be cracked (V8) by the incorrect tightening of the manifold bolts (tightening up all on one side first then tightening down the other side will crack the manifold.)

Coolant light on and leaking coolant... now white smoke and car will not start

You really won't know until you take the intake off.
There could be other problems that caused the leak before the intake cracked.
Until the intake is replaced you won't be able to do a pressure test of the cooling system.
Make sure the thermostat is replaced since it could have been damaged from the overheating episode.

Sounds like a vacuum leak.Check intake manifold at gasket with propane tortch.DO NOT LITE TORTCH.Just crack the tortch valve and pass around intake gasket with engin idling ,if engine speeds up,you have found the leak.

1998 Olds Intregue, 3.8L about 80K miles, started making loud engine noise. Tore down and found crack in lower intake manifold. What would cause this? Is it worth replacing? Should I be checking for...

If the intake manifold is cracked, maybe try to put some puddy epoxy in it to repair. I've found puddy epoxy useful in repairing leaks in other parts of the engine, including a rusty oil pan that was leaking oil. I think that puddy epoxy would be ideal for this crack. Probably, you are hearing the valves clacking if there is a crack there.

How much did you tear the engine down?

Intake manifold cracked and leacking coolant (External)

You can clean the area really good with degreaser and apply JB Weld but that is only a temporary fix it will leak again

Rough idle after intake gasket changed

Check all the old hoses or vacuum lines leading to the manifold...i found a small crack in one of my lines that was causing me a rough idle..of course it was way in the back were i could hardly see it...use an inspection mirror and take your time. also a plugged cooling sensor lie leading to the throttle body could possibly cause this problem too..it senses the temperature and regulates the idle circuitry.
