I have a 1989 F250 Custom truck, manual transmission. I had a near-accident today and subsequently slammed on the brakes. I believe I have activated the Fuel Pump Cutoff Switch, but cannot locate it to reset it.

    Please help!

I have a 1989 F250 Custom (manual trans). TOday I had to suddenly brake to avoid an accident and the truck stalled. It will not restart, although it is turning over just fine. Seems I must have tripped the Fuel cutoff switch, but I have been unable to locate it. PLEASE help me find it!

Hello, my name is Israel. I used resources that I have and I believe the picture I have enclosed will help you. The part you are looking for is shown with red arrow. The parking brake is shown with the parking brake and the black arrow shows the headlight high beam. I really hope this help you out. Once you find it is just a matter of resetting the push button. Good Luck. Please rate.

Hi Israel, hope you're right. My fiance is outside checking right now. I will advise.

  • pattiann527 Jun 02, 2010

what he located seemed on the wall separating the cab from the engine, up under driver area....the box had a button-like apparatus on top that's shaft was red, however it seemed to be depressed already and had no way of being "un depressed", if you know what I mean. When I look at the diagram again, I think he was looking in the wrong place, but I cannot be certain. Will update more tomorrow when it is light out as it is too dark to see everything right now.

Here is another picture of what it may look like. This picture was taken off an 89 F150. The inertia switch is just above the bundle of wires. See if this helps. Regards, Israel

The Fuel Cut Off switch is actually called the Fuel Inertia Switch and it is located on the passenger side floorboard near the hump underneath the carpet. Just pull the carpet back from the firewall and you will see it. To reset it pull the white tab up (or push down to shut off. But I don't recommend this because tampering with it too much will cause it to fail, and your truck will no longer start until its replaced.)

1994 GMC Topkick not getting power from the fuel pump. Where is the fuel pump relay located?

Before going there, check your INERTIA SWITCH (INTERTIAL CUTOFF SWITCH). A small accident or a sharp bump can cause the cutoff switch to trip. The switch is located adjacent to the passenger side rear shock tower, and there is a pushbutton to reset (on most Topkick tucks). Carbureted Topkick trucks do not have cutoff switches, and some custom trucks have the inertia switch relocated.

If the fuel pump(s) run while the pressure is falling, replace the fuel pressure regulator and (although I'm sure you've already done this), replace the fuel filter. If the fuel pumps appear to be turning off by themselves, replace the inertia (fuel cutoff) switch.

Need to know the location of the automatic fuel shut off switch in a 1989 Ford F250 (manual trans) Had to avoid hitting an idiot woman driver and now the truck will not start. It turns over just fine, but...

Most of them were located over the transmission hump and sort of under the dash OR behind the kick panels just ahead of the doors. Not easy to find.

the filter is located approx under the driver on the inside of the frame rail, I think you have plastic fuel line retaining clips in this year, so no tool required. see photo
