My cool is overheating with water comin out of the coolant tank so could it be my thermostat is sticking

Replace the thermostat, if continue replace the radiator too.

2006 Equinox. Losing water. Over heats. Is this a thermostat or water pump problem??


Depends on where the coolant is going.
If it is an external leak it could be a leaking water pump. If there are no external leaks and you are loosing coolant, it could be a blown head gasket. Especially if the engine has already overheated once.
A sticking thermostat would cause the engine to overheat and then loose coolant from the overflow tank. But not until it overheats.

The first thing to check is if the coolant is at the right level and then you will need to replace the thermostat. The thermostat is old and probable sticking closed but also the water might be freezing in the car around the thermostat and causing it to stick closed. One thing that you can do to stop that is buy strait antifreeze and add water yourself buying fifty fifty mix is not good it is 25% coolant and 3/4 water. When you mix your self you can get a good fifty fifty mix that will not freeze. The coolant that you are loosing is coming from the over flow tank so keep it full. Replace the Thermostat every year and a half will make sure that it will never ware out and stick again.

Overheating


Sounds like a leaking head gasket , or head itself is cracked. If overheating because of sticking thermostat heater would still work. Get it check fast cause next is a blown engine. I guess head might not be torqued properly. Take it back to overhauler and check for oil in your anti-freeze too.

2000 daewoo leganza is overheating, leaking anti freeze, and water. what is wrong?


sound like thermostat sticking close.replace thermostat and radiator pressure cap.if already done.you could have faulty water pump.if engine overheating at long slow traffic line or setting at a stand still.the engine cooling fans should be running, check and see if cooling fans running if not,check cooling fans fuses and relays.if all is good,hot wire make sure coolings fans okay.if all is good,code scan vechicle for faulty engine coolant temperature sensor and ecm problems.you need a code scanner where you can check live data check see if coolant temperature sensor reading correctly if engine coolant temperature is 190 degrees the coolant sensor. the scanner suppose to show 190 degrees in temperature if not it reads 80 or 90 degrees the engine coolant temperature sensor is faulty need replacing.if all is good check engine oil if look like milk shake blow head gasket will cause over heating.to be on the safe side i would replace thermostat and radiator pressure cap first.to make sure engine coolant circulating through radiator and engine block.

200w cheve monte carlo overheating,changed,radiator,water pump.


Change the thermostat and the coolat resevoir cap.These are the 2 main things for overheating problems. The thermostat sticks and the cap will let coolant escape from the tank, after a couple of trips the engine overheats. Also make sure your cooling fans are coming on. Physically pull the relays and all fuses, as the do lose contact.

Overheating problem


check the hoses, check the radiator, check the fan, fuse and relays, check the thermostat. check to make sure the head gasket is good, by check for oil and water mixture on the dipstick, same will appears brown

Automatic - overheating blowing coolant out of rad cap and expansion tank. Fan working OK. No oil in water, although quite rusty coloured. Oil level OK and no increase or decrease on dipstick. All clear...


Most likely the thermostat is sticking. Get the system flushed (get that rusty liquid out of the system), replace the thermostat & put in new coolant. Should fix it.
