Alternator is overcharging now

I went out of town today, and the heater hose ruptured. I drove it to a garage to have them put a new hose on. They detected that my Alternator was overcharging . It was working fine until the heater hose broke. What is the cause of that? Did something get wet and short out?

These particular alternators do not take likely to being soaked. I would suggest changing out the alternator. What has happened is the regulator is shorted or has an open in the reference circuit which triggers it to full field and over charge the battery.

Battery overcharge

I would think that your vehicle has a voltage regulator built into the alternator, but I am not sure. I do not have alot of Jag experience. But this sounds like what your problem is. The voltage regulator is stuck and making the alternator put out full charge and wreaking havoc with your electrical system.

Our 2000 Buick Lesabre has been bouncing violently. Had right front shock and spring replaced, but the car still bounces hard. What else could be wrong?

This really sounds like tire damage. Often a little difficult to detect, but what you do is jack up the car, INSTALL jack stands. Then rotate the wheel assembly while observing across the tread to some stationary surface. What you are looking for is any out of true.
Try your spare on any suspect tire location.

Alternator last night went to13 volts put a new one on today started pickup it showed 14.2 volts drove about a hour anf it feel to 13.5 now its back to 14.2

You got a bad regulator in the alternator, maybe

Also check diode leakage (current ripple)
& grounds

Those alternators have been rebuilt & you still have
other peoples old parts inside them

After that you need a wiring daigram of the circuit to see
where the regulator control comes from

Possible failed battery all along

I have 1997 f150 and my alternator went out , I put a new one on and now my gauges are all weird and not working properly what could be the problem?

check the alternator output

either the "new" (more likely rebuilt) alternator is overcharging, (17+ volts) or the diodes are defective and the alternator is putting out AC volts instead of DC volts

The electrical idiot light came on earlier today in our 2000 T&C. Later we drove it and it came on again and later the transmission would not shift properly and then the lights went out. That sounds...

Yes. Recharge the battery and have the alt checked out, and check the belt/ tensioner Be sure to charge the battery, the Alt is not a battery charger,
