You could have a few things going on here. I'll assume that the "check engine" lamp is on as it is running extremely rich which can be due to a leaking fuel pressure regulator, bad oxygen sensor[s], stuck fuel injector, plugged air filter system, worn ignition components, or restricted exhaust...just to name to most common items that go bad. I would start by having the service codes read and then begining testing and diagnosing based on that information

How do i measure amount of fuel in tank when fuel gauge is not working

Suggest you take this to certified mechanic as you have to remove the tank to get to a float that controls your gauge. Any other method of measuring is dangerous. There is the mileage method where you keep track of of the mileage you have driven on a log sheet. That is old fashioned gas gauge though.

My gas guage does not work on my 99 honda prelude. I took it in and the mechanic said my needle was bad. They checked the sending unit first and it is ok....according to them. So I got a whole new...

Check your fuse , check the wires to the gas tank , could be the mechanism inside the tank , if you cant get it working use your trip meter as a gas gauge so you don't run out , just reset it when you fill your tank and refill before a set # of miles , lets say 200 miles , just fill the tank and reset the trip meter , just remember to fill the tank full and reset to 000 every time so you wont run out of gas

My gas gague is not working. I just bought the car. I don't know how many miles per gallon my honda passport 99 V6 4x4 takes HELP

Google the models tank capacity, it is likely 15-20 gals, then do the same for the EPA and any other reputable sources, a forum etc of personal experiences too, . Fill it then go by the most conservative of estimates for mileage averages and minus 5 mpg the 1st time to be safe!, then when you have a 100 or so miles left aprox, go refill it and note usage and miles actually traveled by you. this may vary due to hwy vs city type driving and if your week to weeek habits are common or mixed up with any degree of hwy/city usage being predominate, thus affecting your numbers, after a bit you will say, 200 miles and its time or 250 miles etc, cant hurt to have a buffer, its better to keep a car filled as less condensation can occur which in empty tanks will happen more than with full tanks, it may be a fuse, worth checking, but the sending unit may be part of the fuel pump in the tank or pre pump, some cars use both setups.

Only getting 200 miles to a full tank of gas in a 2002 blazer s-10 with 4.3 4x4

Go to Auto Zone and ask for the free computer scan they do provide anywhere but the state of California. They will advise you what may be wrong and quote you a price for the parts needed to correct you milage. I do think your air mass flow sensor can be at fault

Gas gauge on 95 Buick Roadmaster needs changed possibly. Works full tank to 7/8 - 1/4. Easy to change?

this is not the gas gauge, this problem is caused by the gas gauge sending unit inside the gas tank, drop the gas tank and rep[lace the fuel pump/sending unit module, about $200 for the part from

I have a fuel problem with my 91 240sx. It's burning gas like if it was leaking but there is no leak. It hasn't gone 200 miles and it's already on empty. This car use to go over 300 miles on a tank full....

You may want to check the oxygen sensor if it is still working. It tells the ECU if the engine is not burning the gasoline efficiently. You may also want to have the injectors checked if the O2 is ok.

Gas gauge in 99 chev blazer

sorry, but there is no real economical way. the only way is to change the fuel pump and they sell 2 different kinds of units, one that is 2 parts and the whole thing and it runs from $200 to $380. since the fuel pump still works i would just meter my mpg till the fuel pump goes out.

99' blazer gas gauge eratic

I have the same problem on my 99 ZR2 Blazer. This is the rheostat in the gas tank. I bought my part in Ebay for $27. The only issue is that you have to drop the gas tank and pull the sending unit to install. Hope this helps, I hear from other message boards that it is a very common problem in these vehicles.
